Hi, I'm brand new to the forum
1 quick question.....

Does anyone know the roundtrip latency of the UDIO-8?

My current set up....

Soundcraft VI600. I'm using the local rack analog I/O with my MOTU Ultralite mk3 as channel inserts into my Macbook Pro. The individual channels are being processed in Waves Multirack. I'm currently at 6ms-10ms depending on the buffer size and individual plugins.

I've measured this latency with SMAART Live so I'm confidence in the accuracy.

Could anyone tell me what the latency would be using the UDIO-8 with AES inputs and outputs on my Souncraft local rack?

Then UDIO-8 seems like a great option if it can improve the latency by keeping everything AES (no A/D and D/A) but seeing that there is no return policy, I'm skeptical in purchasing one without knowing for sure if the latency would be improved.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to anyone's insight.

JOHN

@ John

The answer is simple: It depends.. :-)
Basically, roundtrip latency is controlled by the driver. Under our Windows ASIO driver, that's the size of the ASIO buffer x sample rate.
If you have a MOTU, it would be similar with the UDIO. You'd have a FIXED latency based on your driver latency.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm using a Mac.

Since OS X has native USB 2.0 support, would that decrease the latency compared to the Windows ASIO driver?

THANKS!

Unfortunately OSx controls its USB Audio latency without any access/control from the end users. I'm afraid that it will be unknown. (depending on your OS load)Under Windows (And our drivers) you will have control of it.
