I'm interested in a U-DAC 8. I'm wondering if this has IR remote volume control? If not, would the NanoAVR HDA have the same DAC performance as the U-DAC 8?

No, it doesn't have a remote volume control. I believe it uses the same DAC board (miniDAC8) as the nanoAVR HDA.
