I am currently using a Windows PC using APO Equaliser to realise a low/mid/high crossover. The three channels are fed via an Asus Xonar essence ST 8 channel sound card to three amplifiers and the my active three way speakers. I am wondering whether I could get any gain in sound quality from removing the sound card from the electronic moise in the PC - are there reviews (or even measurements) of the sound quality available online? My main question is: how would I control the volume of the channels to adjust speaker volume? Will the Windows volume slider work? Will the volume slider in foobar work?

The UDAC8 being an external DAC, it's indeed less prone to noise from the internal PC, but I'm afraid that we don't have a comparison with that sound card. You might just want to investigate with existing UDAC8 users. You'd want to compare the specs of the chipset maybe used between the 2...

As for your question of volume, yes you can indeed have one master volume for all speaker. It will be the Windows volume if you assign the UDAC8 as your default playback device.
