Hi all,

Had an idea to solve a connection problem.

The unbalanced Minidsp's outputlevel is unsufficient to drive pro XLR inputs amplifiers and, ofcourse, the out of phase signal is missing.

Here is the trick for connecting a maximum of two balanced channels:

* use the matrix to connect input 1 to outputs 1&3; connect input 2 to outputs 2&4.
* make all adjustments in channel one, copy to channel three and invert channel three in the output stage
* make (other) adjustments in channel two, copy to channel four and invert channel four in the output stage

Take a normal stereo cinch cable; cut in half and solder two XLR male connectors with the following scheme:

Pin1 to both grounds
Pin 2 to left cinch signal
Pin 3 to richt cinch signal

You have now two adapters from stereo cinch to XLR male.

Put the first adapter in outputs 1&3, the second in 2&4. You have now two balanced outputs with sufficient level to drive pro amps (max 1,8V rms). The output impedance is rather high though. Not a real problem with subwoofers, but very high frequency signals might get attenuated a little with long cable runs.

The input is stil unbalanced ofcourse. Systems with muliple earthing points might still hum.

Have fun!

@ JP,

Nice little trick indeed!
Did you already try it out? All working as it should?

Yes!

Restriction: I tried the sub solution. Not mid or high. Don't know if there is a small delay in between the outputs so comb filtering might occur at very high frequencies.

DC popping is a problem with this unit at power on/off, be carefull.
