Dear MINI DSP TeamI am using my SHD for almost 2 years and overall I am happy When everything is working as it should be it is great piece of equipment with great potential. It is very versatile player and I am using it for active loudspeaker filtering in combination with DIRAC to adjust the frequency response. I am also using the SHD as preamplifier for my analogue equipment and together with the pre installed Volumio, I have access to Internet radio stations, pod cast etc. At the same time I created an additional box with SSD, CD drive and USB connections to play from different digital media sources. This box is relative easy to make by using a small computer case, powered USB hub that is connected to the SHD, a laptop CD drive and an SSD hard disk that is using EXT FAT format.Never the less there are also some annoying things I faced.that has some negative impact on the overall picture of the SHD:
  • The first SHD I received did brake down after a couple of weeks and killed almost my speakers because of that. The SHD was replace under warranty by my retailer.
  • The IR remote control is not very responsive
  • On going problems with Spotify. The SHD can make the connection, you select the track but it will not play although there is no error message.
  • After the firmware upgrade the display will goes completely black after some time and of the it is not clear if the SHD is in standby or on
  • Volumio can be slow and not very responsive especially when changing the volume can be challenging because of that. Sometimes you need to reboot the SHD to get Volumio to work again
  • The case is getting pretty warm the CPU temperature can achieve 74 degree C. Maybe better internal case cooling would be helpful and will extend the life span of the SHD
  • Faster CPU would maybe fix some of the Volumio problems
  • Standby power consumption is relative high

I see no one on the forum has replied to your questions so wondering how you have had you problems resolved.

Can I suggest that when using formatted drives with the SHD, I would only use FAT32, not Ex FAT.
Also I do not use the Volmio app, I play Spotify directly from the Spotify app on my Mac.
I have had issues with the direct interface and never use it.

For the manufacturer to take into account in further product iterations, your feedback on the remote's responsiveness, Spotify connectivity, display issues, Volumio performance, thermals, CPU power, and standby power usage is very helpful. With high-end audio hardware like the SHD, finding the ideal mix between performance, usefulness, and affordability can be difficult. Decisions made in the future are significantly influenced by reviews from enthusiastic and discriminating consumers like yourself. Your experiences will likely be valuable to other members of the audiophile community as they evaluate the SHD and other DAC solutions.
