Hello,

I wonder what the different settings in "My Music" (in German "Meine Musik") are good for and if it is better to disable them if they do not have any use for you. I cannot find information about this in the user's manual? Do I overlook them?
  • Bluetooth Input Playback => Do neo3 SHDs have bluetooth? In my case (neo2 hardware) I think I can disable this without loosing anything?
  • UPnP renderer => Ok, this is an option that I do understand. You probably want to keep this enabled to be able to play music via upnp to the SHD
  • Music Metadata dsicovery => what is this?
  • ms_surface_dial => Only for neo3, right? So I can disable it with neo2.
  • Shairport-Sync => Probably is Airplay. (I did not test if it really is Airplay)
  • CD Playback and Ripping => As long as I do not connect a CD drive I can turn this off without drawbacks?
  • Roon Ready => Certainly required if you want to use the SHD to play via Roon.
  • Tidal Connect => Can be turned off if you do not use Tidal?
  • DLNA Browser => What is this? Is it a UPnP server? If you do not use the SHD to store or index music files you can turn this off?
I do not dare to turn off all things that I think I do not need. I do not want to risk problems that volumio does not start anymore or behaves problematic somehow? But maybe it is better for sound quality, or performance having started only these services that you need?

Did anybody experiment with this settings and turned them off?

Thanks

Neo3s don't have Bluetooth built in, but the addition of a bluetooth dongle is what allows them to be use with a Microsoft Surface Dial. I'd not noticed the Bluetooth Input Playback option till you just pointed it out though.

My gut feeling is that I doubt switching off the things you've listed will make any difference but no harm in switching off things you're never going to use I guess.

I have disabled everything I don't use. That is nearly everything that is possible because I just use squeezelite as plugin.

Volumio should bootup a bit faster with everything turned off. You can see that in the log under "http://<volumio-ip>/dev" in your browser.
You have to be a bit fast with turning the Log On at boottime to see most of the log-output from the volumio boot.

My Music would be music stored locally on volumio or a usb-drive connected to the neo USB Port.
Music metadata discovery should also be for local music indexing.

Everything you could disable in the volumio Interface shouldn't do any harm to the volumio base system. just re-enable what you disabled when anything didn't work anymore as expected.

I have now turned off nearly everything except UPnP renderer, Shairplay-Sync and DLNA Browser. DLNA Browser is required to browse other upnp servers like minimserver on a NAS. I will see if it makes a difference (but I think not).

Using a Bluetooth dongle is what makes a Neo3 compatible with a Microsoft Surface Dial, as Neo3s lack built-in Bluetooth. To clarify, "My Music" refers to music that is kept locally, either on a volumio or a USB drive that is linked to the neo USB Port.
Metadata discovery for music should also be done on a local level.

I bought the suggested bluetooth dongle in the app note, which is recognized by volumio but it just sits in pairing mode with the dial pairing light blinking forever. Could this be a browser issue? Anyone get this working on Volumio 1.125 using a Mac browser?
