I've not updated the software yet and the auto display off won't effect me, it's as I run it today but has the ability to adjust the brightness been removed? I listen at night in a darkened room and can imagine the display coming on full brightness whenever I touch the control to be jarring. If this is the case I might contact @DevTeam and add another voice asking for this feature to be reinstated.

There is no option to adjust brightness I'm afraid. There are simply no options to select associated with the display at all.

With the previous firmware the screen went to full brightness whenever there was a change anyway though? It was the brightness when dimmed that could be set, if it wasn't set to switch right off.

Did (does) it? 🤔

In that case I'm good here 😁

So guys, this should be an easy one.

If so many people want this Feature and if I understand correctly Flex users didn't have that Feature at all, than we should just state to miniDSP that we really want this feature back and FLEX users maybe want this feature too.

So how do we get this info to miniDSP as clear as possible and with as many votings as possible?

I suppose we want dimmimg functionality and Display OFF timeout between 5 to 120 seconds available.

Maybe we start another thread with just one posting with what it's about and everyone who wants this feature just vote in there +1 and somebody opens a support ticket referring to the thread.

Just test with your current unit to be certain  .

I'm sure miniDSP staff will be monitoring this thread. If I were wanting a change myself I'd be posting both here and directly miniDSP Support to explain why having the screen on permanently was vital for me, which so far I don't believe anyone has explained?

For those that do want the screen on permanently, is there a way of making the screen come back on that would be an improvement over the current behaviour? A change in this regard may be more likely to happen I suspect.

I've just had a look at the settings option before changing to DC. My current setup has the display come on for 10secs when I change volume etc. There is no setting to adjust the brightness at which the display lights up. If you select the 'dim' rather than 'off' option you can select the brightness  it dims to. Having this on minimum dims the display a bit. Having it set to max doesn't seem to dim the display at all so I'm hoping this means the max brightness isn't that bright after all since it doesn't bother me at the moment when it comes on. I've just got horrible visions of upgrading to DC and the display becoming as Bright as the blue LED on the 2x4HD/DDRC-24  which is bloomin' blindin'!

So as I said above I don't believe you're going to see ANY difference if you go to DC, in that your unit already goes to maximum brightness whenever you wake the screen up by changing something.

Just adding a vote here. Upgraded to DC 1-hour ago and noticed absence of the display settings immediately. Of course I want this back !

Please send them an email/create a ticket.

I did and was told to take a hike, but maybe if they hear from more people directly they’ll wake up and reconsider. They haven’t been here for a month and it was just to tell us about their holiday break, so don’t expect much in the way of alertness on their part. They could’t even be bothered to tell us why they’ve hamstrung their own device four years into its lifespan. At least own up to the OLED sucking and/or being the wrong part for the application or something.

The change is definitely due to known issues caused by the OLED displays being on all the time.

This thread might be more productive if you and others could try to make a compelling case for why you are so keen to have the screens on constantly. Or if there is a way of waking the display up that would improve on the current experience?

(Personally I want displays that go off when inactive.)

The problem is for me that (as far as I understand) you do not have the option anymore to make the display turn off immediately (after 5 or 10 seconds). I completely understand that they do not allow it anymore to keep the display on the whole time if this damages the display.

Yes, what it does now is switch off after two minutes and there is no option to make it switch off sooner. Like you'd I'd like the option to do so and posted as much earlier in this thread. It's not a big deal to me though.

Made my ticket. Response from Minidsp:
"THanks for the feedback. Unfortunately we have removed these settings indeed... The brightness should be hard locked now to save the display."

When it comes to user stories/needs: I'm using the Minidsp with high end speakers for music but the TV is connected too. As a result the whole family uses the setup. Now that the display is completely off vs. low brightness (my setting before) I can't see if the kids forgot to turn it off, nor can I see if they changed the presets or inputs etc without activating the remote or controller. This is especially important because we use a logitech harmony who switches TV and SHD together, and this doesn't always work if not pointed correctly. Anyhow, for my wife and kids it would be better to see if the SHD is on or not.

+1 for bringing back the old display options. I solved it by not using the new console (I reverted back the old) and I will not using till the display can't be controlled like with the old software. What's the advantage of the new software anyway?

It's slightly off-topic, but a simple point matrix display would be better, IMO, where one don't need to fear the failing of the display, because it's on. Plus a manual turn-on/turn-off of the display with the remote controller would be good too. Of course, these are vain hopes.
