My SHD Studio has had (from the beginning) a history of skipping tracks in the playlist. It didn't really bother me until recently because in the past it only happened maybe once every 300-400 tracks which I saw as uncommon enough to see as a forgivable quirk.

In the last month or so, however, it happens every 10-20 tracks, and it is really beginning to draw ire now. Is this happening more frequently for anyone else?

edited to add: the skipping is happening while a track is playing. It does not skip over an entire track i.e. for example: NOT [track 2 ends -----> track 4] but rather [track 2 is playing and the device will randomly skip to track 3].

Is this on a playlist of locally stored music files or using a streaming service?

Is the SHD maybe interfering with an app on a mobile device? Maybe spotify that is still connected and disturbs the playing tracke somehow? etc.

I remember many years ago that an open fire in our living room would change TV channels. I'm sure that modern remote's technology is a bit more robust.

But it might be an idea to turn absolutely everything off in close proximity - computers, lights, electronic and electric devices - just to see if you can narrow it down.

Is this on a playlist of locally stored music files or using a streaming service?

After several days of observing the behavior of a playlist containing items from both local and streamed sources, the problem is with tracks steamed via Qobuz and not from local track files via a NAS, etc.

Even if it was I can't see how that would require intervention on a user's end. Besides, it happens if nothing else is connected and only the SHD is running.

All I know is that streaming tracks from Qobuz results in random skipping and I cannot use the device when I have visitors at the house ("Hey, what's up with this thing? I'll make sure to never buy one, ahaha.")

I can't imagine how stretched thin .dev is that this remains an issue.

I had to test this on my SHD Studio if I can reproduce this. Currently I am using a lumin U1 Mini for streaming.
Are you using the volumio web GUI for streaming?

As a work around and test with even better user experience (IMHO) you could install bubbleUPNPserver on your NAS or a computer in your LAN and use this for streaming with the bubble upnp app (Android) or lumin app or linn app on iOS or Android.

Did you contact the minidsp support because of this issue?

Is your SHD connected via LAN cable or wifi? Is everything ok with your internet access (with your router, switches, access points)? Did you try to turn them all off and on again?

I am currently using Volumio, yes. When I used Roon the issue did not exist.

Thanks for the suggestion re: UPNP; really though it seems that a device with streaming capabilities ought to just, well-- work. The hardware capability is there, after all. I'm reluctant to return to using Roon as I no longer need multi-room/multiple device functionality.

I have not made official contact with miniDSP about the issue. Mind if I ask- given if it's appropriate - how one does so?

My SHD is wired in w/ airplay support enabled. Router/AP works without problem (HBO Go, Netflix, etc). I power cycle everything regularly, every 10 days give/take.

Ok, as streaming qobuz via roon does work I also would think it is an issue with the SHD. To contact the support see the info text on top of each forum page.

In that case I believe you're experiencing the issue discussed in the thread below, which from the final post the Volumio team are apparently investigating.

I'm trialling Roon with Qobuz and yesterday I had a case of skipping tracks to the next.
A track would start, play for say 10 seconds, then skip to the next, ad infinitum.

I restart of the MiniDSP fixed the problem.

But I remember having encountered the same issue with Spotify a few months back and I think that was because I'd switched a few times between using the Volumio app on my phone and the Spotify app, which were then interfering with eachother or so I thought back then.

EDIT:
A good possible cause is mentioned here: moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=1588
Pausing a song causes the internet connection socket to be unused; Internet providers close sockets that have been unused for a while.
Then after unpausing, the software doesn't pick up that the connection has closed on the other side and therefore keeps skipping songs.

Also, I read somewhere else that Qobuz's track ID expires after a few minutes after which it must be requested again, which could cause skipping after a song has been paused for a while.

Hmm, I don't think so. I often have qobuz tracks in the playlist of my lumin streamer. Then I turn off the player and when I start it again the next day, I still can play these same playlist entries again.

Does it do this on some albums or all? I get this very occasionally on a particular album and I've thought it was a kind of demo version? This isn't the main issue this thread is about, which is where the early ending of a track can happen at any point through it, not just always after the same short time period.

This is what I thought first, too. But then a restart would not fix this.

I don't see why a restart would make any difference. Note I referred to a demo version of particular albums (you cut my quote to hide this point!). What's the answer to my question about if you see this on all albums?
