I'm trying to make a new calibration. I updated the SHD and Dirac software to the latest versions available today (30 April 2022).
The Dirac software is giving me fits. I'm trying for a "wide" calibration which takes 17 measurement. That's a lot!

At measurement 10 of 17, Dirac decided the network was not available and aborted the thing. Before that it said the "device" had no volume control and I could proceed only at my own risk. The auto-saved project could not be reloaded. I'm not looking forward to starting over, because I've gotten several of those messages from various Dirac screens. Yet the network connection is very, very good. We have 1 Gbit service, and Web pages load in a flash on the same PC. Dirac also has had trouble finding the SHD a couple of times, then trouble finding the UMIK-2. It's like using a bad piece of beta software.

If anyone has ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them. I can't imagine this is supposed to be so painful.

P.S. Windows 10 on an Acer laptop with an 8th generation Core i7 processor, SSD, and 12 Gb of RAM. Original SHD. Firmware also updated today to latest.

Sorry to hear of your negative experience. I received mine 1 week ago and have done 2 calibrations with no issue. I hope you realize that if you wanted you could save the project after each calibration point. This way if you have an issue you simply can resume that last project and continue on without losing a beat. I am not sure if you are hard-wired for your internet connection, I am. Unless you have a very unstable connection that should not make a difference.

Any chance you used the remote control to make any changes after starting Dirac Live? This can get things 'confused'. If either Dirac Live or the Plugin are connected then the remote control should not be used at all.

In terms of the network issue, I vaguely wonder if a temporary issue at the Dirac server end could have an effect?

Again, thanks to those who replied. Not knowing what else to try, I disconnected the Ethernet cable and used WiFi instead. For some reason, it worked better through WiFi -- the opposite of my experience with anything else needing network connection. So, I am happy about that.

In answer to @ultrasonic, I don't think I pressed any remote buttons, as the remote was set aside.

It seems Dirac's difficulty locating the SHD and microphone were temporary and did not occur again after the devices were located once -- much to my relief.

It has been years since I made my last calibration. Am I correct, that the naming and description of filters is not carried over from Dirac to the SHD? That on the SHD, they are just 1, 2, 3 or 4? Or have I overlooked something?

Yes, this is correct. The Presets cannot be renamed.

Are you talking about the network connection to your SHD there? I might be wrong but I don't actually think this is used during the Dirac Live calibration process and so my guess is that it was purely coincidental that it worked using WiFi rather than LAN connection.

Not that connection -- the connection to the laptop running the Dirac program. The program apparently contacts Dirac regularly (perhaps to save progress, perhaps to validate the user). If Dirac doesn't like the network connection, my experience is, it won't run.

Yes, your laptop needs to connect to the Dirac servers for licencing purposes. I'd wondered if you may have meant your SHD since it's more uncommon to read of someone connecting a laptop with a LAN connection during a calibration.

Unless there is an unusual issue with your laptop my hunch remains that your change in local network connection was coincidental to Dirac running better but the main thing of course is that you got it to work  .

Make sure you have selected the correct microphone. Sometimes the DIRAC software has selected the laptop mic by default.
