Hi,

Configuration 2.2 (2 ported mains, 2 sealed subs)

One sub, in front, a little ahead of the left main, placed at 90 degrees from the axis of the mains
One sub, placed laterally to MLP, right wall, placed at 90 degrees from the axis of the mains (not on the picture)

MSO "sub only" configuration

3 measurements of 2 sub (with no crossover) so a set of 6 measures

- frequency range to optimize : 15 to 160 hz (one octave above crossover)
- optimization method : as flat as possible
- fixed reference level 80hz

calculated filters :

Final gain and delay/distance settings:

MSO results :

Minimal gain settings:
Sub 1 gain: 0.00 dB
Sub 2 gain: -11.19 dB
Delay settings:
Sub 1 delay: 0.00 msec
Sub 2 delay: 12.13 msec

Channel inversions: No inversions

I copied the parameters in the SHD (delay, gain & PEQ for sub1 & sub2)

I reduced the gain of the main speakers by 6db in order to help Dirac reach the NAD target curve. I did not use target curve in MSO. I set up a Butterworth 24db/oct filter for the 80hz crossover and a LR 48db/oct subsonic filter on both sub.

Then I have run dirac and set my target curve (NAD, but too much bass so and Harman + 4db "customized" curve).

Good subjective results...

My question : Is there a better way to merge subs with mains ?

"sorry for my low level of english"

You mention. NAD target curve. Did you mean Harman? Just wondering if you're using a NAD processor here too.

I have SHD WITH 2.2 system. I ran MSO with a Subs AND Mains config. That way MSO considers what your mains are doing and will calculate the est crossover points for the mains and subs.

I also took 7 measurements per sub/speaker across my two seater sofa.

Here my two target curves. One is from Nad, the other is an Harman+4 modified.
I do not use Nad processor. Only SHD, Nad C298 amp & SVS subs
I have also tried MSO with a subs AND Mains config but the result was less good. I do not know why...
Andyc, the MSO software developer seems to prefer the sub only configuration. I do not know why exactly.

"gets to the heart of why sub-only configurations for MSO were created in the first place. Many of the results of MSO subs+mains optimizations will be invalidated by subsequent runs of your AVR's room correction system. That's the reason for sub-only configurations."

Yeah the minidsp tutorial recommends with subs. I think possibly let's say MSO adds a PEQ to left but not right then maybe dirac might try to undo it? Not sure. When I included mains all I allowed was a hpf.

It worked well and after MSO followed by Dirac I measured the same 7 positions with everything on. Applied psychoacoustic smoothing to the measurements and had a +/-2.5dB maximum seat to seat variation. I've never tried a Subs only config.
