I'm receiving my new SHD any day now and super excited to get started!

Does anyone know of a good video that clearly shows an accurate method for measuring proper phase and time alignment between 2 speakers and a subwoofer? I saw one video that explained an auto time alignment feature in REW. Has anyone had good results with using this? It seems quite different than the methods explained in the articles on the minDSP website to integrate and balance 2 speakers with a sub.

thank you, Carlos

I used the method explained in an article on this site. Rather complicated but produced a much better integration than I calculated.

thanks Entripy,

I've seen that article. Did you ever try REW auto time alignment feature? I've seen, what seems like a good example on a Youtube video called "REW Home Theatre Subwoofer and Main Theatre Speaker Time Alignment and New House Curve Method" and wondering if anyone else has tried this. I'm not allowed to post a hyper link it seems so can only give you the title of video. Skip to 20:13 into the video where he explains this method.

That is, I'm wondering if anyone else on this from has had good success using this method which seems like an easier way to do things and taking the guess work out.

Hi,
I use this method. For any further information feel free to ask.
There is a Video I will search and post later.

1. Measurement - Individual Speakers and Subs with Time reference (four individual measurements)
2. Time Align the Subs using Align Tool , using slider for the delay for rear sub
3. Aplied delay on MiniDsp and measure the Both subs together
4. I did not need to Apply Eq for both subs!
5. Trace Aritimetic both Kef Speakers A+B (Just clicked the trace buton and Created the A+B
6. Time Align Kef (A+B with Sub1+Sub2  using Align from XO cursor.
7. After the MiniDsp's bass management using the MiniDsp Plug in , Start Dirac Live in upmix mode

Hi altsouza,

Thanks for sharing the video. Every time I try to share a Youtube video link, my posts are rejected as "spam". How do I get around this? I've tried copy and pasting a URL link (that gets rejected) or I'v tried using the built in "Link" in the tab above the reply window on this forum to designate any word with a URL link - they also get rejected..!

This video I'd already watched, thanks for posting it. Would the same method be applied and work then for one sub and 2 speakers, that is, as the one I was recommending in post #59156 a couple hours ago. Were you able to take a quick look starting from 20:13...slightly different method and specifically geared towards satellite mains with sub(s) as opposed to all subs.

Hi,
Very similar methods. I first time align both subs, and after time align the sub ensemble with the mains.
In my case there was a about 5ms delay applied to the mains speakers.

Thanks altsouza for checking that video...might you be able to share with me how you posted a youtube video right into the miniDSP community forum reply  without getting flagged - where I always get my posts with links rejected and called spam?

And so in theory, using the method from the video link you sent me (regarding aligning 4 subs), I could use the same method between my one subwoofer and 2 x main speakers where I treat the main speakers as one grouped reading - to compare to the sub - and then use the slider on the alignment tool to see where they best align by visual cues as described in the video?

Hi,
Yes, you can use this method. Your mains as a unit x the Sub.
But I strongly recommend you to buy another Sub, as with two subs you will get a smoother bass response. More Subs = Better sound!!!
Regarding youtube share, i really don't know, sorry!
Remember to make measurements with time reference turned on in Rew!

thanks altsouza,

Budget and space are a consideration...this high end stereo is now my main listening system for pleasure - in my kitchen! Which is only 9 feet wide and about 17 feet long with just over 8 foot ceiling. made even more narrow with counter space and cupboard, etc, making the space even "smaller". Two open doorways on two adjacent walls help for acoustics. I'd post a photo but seem unable to do so just like inability to share links. I've done some extensive DIY 6 inch panelling on walls, 3 inch panels on ceiling and 1 thick wood padding under a 9 foot by 5 foot rug, so a kind of dead end space where the speakers live pointing into the untreated end of the kitchen. It already sounds pretty amazing with a great sense of a big sound stage.

I'll see how things go with the one sub and my first tests, and consider a maybe  consider a second sub. Someone had already suggested it's a big uphill battle with low end correction in such a small room.

Hi,
My space is even smaller, 15x9 ft , and when i bought the second sub, and placed the two in diagonal front rear, the bass response got much better. Trust me.

The smaller the room, the more it will benefit from increasing the amount of Subs in it. Law of Physics!
Sell yours and Buy four svs 3000 micro!
