XLR Outputs 1 year 8 months ago #57003

On the miniDSP Studio, it says for output that it has
  • 2 x AES-EBU on XLR connector
But these are labeled 1&2 and 3&4. What kind of cable do I need to connect it to my DCS Bartok DAC, which has 2 XLR inputs?

1&2 is one stereo channel. You can connect this with one xlr cable to the dac.

So 3&4 is the other channel? This is very confusing. If both channels are on 1&2, I would need to split them somehow.

No. For your setup you would use 1 as the left channel and 2 as the right. You would not be using outputs 3 and 4.

This is assuming that each input on your DAC is expecting a stereo digital input, right? If not and you want one mono channel per input then you could use say channel 1 for the left and channel 3 for the right, and use two cables to make the connections.

No. One XLR is Right, and the other is Left on the Bartok DAC, so far as I know. XLR is usually a mono connection.

Analogue XLR is but digital would usually be stereo. Your DAC may welll use mono digital inputs though, which is why I covered this possibility in my reply above.

It was unclear whether I could do this (route the channels separately to the two XLR outputs)
Thanks
