For info. you don't need a specific app. If you just enter the same path in a browser on your phone as you would on a laptop then you are greeted with a mobile-friendly result.

I have not tried the volumio GUI on a smart phone, only on a PC (Mac or Linux) and in chrome in the iPad. I do not like the GUI very much. E.g. adding a track to the playlist requires to click it twice or you have to open the context menu via the small three dot menu and find the correct menu item for this. It would be smarter to just touch the track once and the default action should be to add the track to the queue without changing the actually playing song.

Also I am afraid of touching the volume slide. First the volume can jump directly to the position that you are touching. If this is 100% then, well, it becomes loud. This is critical because the icon to open the playlist is right next to the 100% volume slider position. No good design decision.

The album art could be displayed much bigger. At least when touching it, it should be opened in fullscreen.

In qobuz you cannot discover the new album separated by genre. (This is an issue in the linn app, too, why I am using lumin or BubbleUpnP.)

If you switch between your local media server and qobuz you always start on the first screen. The GUI should remember the last path where you have been before in the current session. This is much better in lumin and bubble.

You cannot search for tracks/artists/albums in the media servers nor qobuz.

These are only the things that I remember when having a quick view to the GUI while typing this posting.

You cannot search for tracks/artists/albums in the media servers nor qobuz.

Just on this point, you can't choose to only search for items of each type, but the results you get are grouped by these categories so you only have to scroll a little to find what you want.

Oh, and you mentioned not being able to get large album art but on my phone I can also get album art the width of the screen.

I fully agree with you about the genre related limitations. I tend to due the Qobuz phone or desktop app if I want to do any searches by genre, be this of saved favourites or new releases.

I don't use playlists, and don't have any locally stored music files. I just use Qobuz.

Have you tried running minimserver?

I've had good luck with the Lumin app running minimserver on my ipad mini 2. Later versions of Lumin App don't work as well with non-lumin streamers, so Lumin has suggested their Esoteric App. (Which is an earlier version of Lumin App). You don't need Bubbleup Server, just Minimserver running on a NAS.

The full-featured Minimserver was free until last year, but the free version running as a default is all you need to run Lumin / Esoteric App.

I've owned Lumin streamers for the past 3 years. I leave the SHD/Volumio ethernet cable connected as a backup and actually paid for the Volumio iOS App thinking it would be better/different than the browser version (lol). My original idea was to sell my Lumin streamer when I bought the SHD - that will never happen.

Out of curiosity, is there any real difference between the two? Given I have free options that work I'd never bothered to pay for this to find out.

What does the Lumin have that SHD doesn't? What model is it?  I like the dirac on the SHD too much to give it up.  My horn speakers benefit from room correction BIG TIME!
I am 85% satisfied with the Volumio.  At the moment I am fighting with volume control, not a small issue but still the sound is so good. The searches are specific when you get to either the Qobuz or the Spotify tabs.  Qobuz quality is so superior to the Spotify but the selection and the playlists is so much better on the latter.  I think it's more an issue with Qobuz than with Volumio per se.
I hope they fix this GUI Volume issue.  I cannot be the only one with the problem.

Well, maybe I am using the wrong search input field? If I click on the "media servers" menu item I see my minimserver and am able to browse through it. At the top of this area there is a search field. If I enter something I only get a "no items" result. Maybe it does only search in the server from volumio itself? I am not using volumio to index my music.

Oh, and you mentioned not being able to get large album art but on my phone I can also get album art the width of the screen.

Did you check this on a bigger screen like a PC or tablet? Maybe I just did not find the right way to see the album art a little bit bigger.

Kind regards
Gert

Yes, I am using minimserver2 for my local music.

Does the lumin app work flawlessly with the lumin streamers? So not loosing connection from time to time? I already think about looking for a U1 mini to connect it to the SHD Studio.

You don't need Bubbleup Server, just Minimserver running on a NAS.

I need the BubbleUPnPServer to stream qobuz using the openhome apps like linn or lumin. Volumio offers a openhome playlist, too, but this is not qobuz compatible. Only the BubbleUpnP App is able to stream qobuz via the volumio openhome playlist. I think volumio does not have a qobuz license and the bubble upnp server and app do.

My original idea was to sell my Lumin streamer when I bought the SHD - that will never happen.

Can you give a comparison of the two streaming solutions (lumin vs SHD)? Where are the advantages of the lumin streamer?
Is there a difference regarding sound quality?
How do you connect the lumin streamer? (I am already using toslink to connect my TV.)
How do you handle the volume with the two devices? Lumin streamers can control the volume, too, don't they? Can you set it to fixed in the lumin streamer? So you need to control the volume with the SHD remote control and cannot use the app, right?

Greetings
Gert

What happens if you search from the home screen instead? In your earlier post you said you couldn't search in Qobuz either though and I was referring to that in my earlier reply by the way. If I search from either the home screen or after clicking on Qobuz I get the performance I described above. My guess is that you'd need to index your library if you want to be able to search via Volumio but as I said I have no locally stored music files so I've never done this myself.

In terms of album art I thought you were referring to the phone app. On my desktop I can't make it full-screen but if I right click and select to open the image in a new tab then it's pretty big (600x600). The only time I do this is if I want to post the image on a forum though, since the size it is in the playback view is fine for me.

Lumin and SHD are two different animals. I'm like you I would never give up my SHD w/ Dirac. The Lumin U1 that I own is strictly a streamer Digital out only. What I like about it is that it is fully integrated with its control app. Aurender is similar. Until you've experienced a fully integrated solution to software and hardware, you can't appreciate what a pleasure it is. Qobuz, Tidal, Roon, Local files from a NAS, JazzGroove, TuneIn, Flac Radio, Spotify, all fully integrated on an intuitive fully thought out software app controller. Like I said, Lumin is not the only one. Aurender has taken this approach and for awhile PSAudio was talking about their new Octave approach.

So the only part of the SHD that I don't use is the LAN input.

Please read my reply above.

As far as sound differences go, I think I hear differences. But different does not necessarily mean better. Both sound great. But I absolutely hate Volumio.

I leave volume at 100% on both devices and use a GoldPoint volume potentiometer to to deal with System wide volume adjustment. I'm old fashioned. I like the knob adjustment. LOL. But Lumin has the very nice leedh volume digital control. I use SPDIF out of the lumin U1 to the SHD.

Lumin has a fully integrated solution to Qobuz within the App.

Having said all this. Lumin is $$$, not for everyone and many people are quite happy with Volumio. I could live with it if I had to.

The U1 is an expensive piece of kit!  Actually the U1 mini may work for me. I actually have an SHD studio, it as and AES-EBU digital input I am assuming that's how you connect the SHD to the lumin. I can compare the lumin digital to the SHD studio digital version straight up (w/o dirac) see if it's worth the extra $2.1k. What DAC do you use?  Actually the better question would be do you have SHD studio or plain SHD. thanks

I connect the U1 to the SHD via SPDIF rca/coax. My DAC is the SHD. I have a turntable so I needed the full SHD.

Interesting, I find I prefer the balanced digital connection.  Also the SHD/SHD studio are limited to 24bit 96kHz but I think the DIRAC does so much good it more than makes up for the gap in resolution.   Thanks

Well, I am not sure what the home screen is. When opening the web GUI I see the "now playing" screen with the volume control circle, but no search input field.

If I search from either the home screen or after clicking on Qobuz I get the performance I described above.

Yes, when switching to qobuz and doing a search there, I see the results as you describe. (It really would be good to separate the results in 3 tabs "Artists", "Albums", "Tracks".) But in the "Media Servers" menu nothing can be found.

Please read my reply above.

Thank's for the lumin streamer infos. Really interesting. Is it right, that you cannot save real qobuz playlists that can be found in the qobuz app after this?
