I am usually not using the volume slider in the web GUI but instead always am using the remote control. But I have tried the web GUI now and found the following:

1) The volume was raised to 100% automatically when opening the web GUI in a browser! IMHO this is very dangerous!
2) I could not use the volume slider in the footer area of the web frontend. When hovering the mouse over it the mouse cursor changed to a forbidden-icon.
3) In the "Now Playing" Screen (when clicking on the album cover in the footer area) I was able to control volume via the volume circle slider. After this the volume slider in the footer area was enabled, too.

So this is not really bug free, I think.

This doesn't happen for me, on both my Windows 10 laptop and Android 11 phone. Not sure why you're finding this but I don't think it's normal.

Having a quick play this thread has though made me realise that the rotary volume control on my laptop is much better than the linear slider, as the latter only allows adjustments in (useless) 6 dB increments whilst the former actually allows reasonable control.

Guys,
my GUI volume control both on the bottom of the window and the round volume bar on the playback window are moving normally with the % dial number changing as expected however, nothing is happening to the actual volume.
In addition my remote sucks. How? Often the voulme up-down becomes reversed and takes off meaning I try to lower the volume and the volume shoots up to 0 dB. Presently the only safe way I have is the knob on the actual unit.

On my Android phone I use the on screen + and - buttons instead of the slider. This is much safer.

Good point! maybe the bug is in the mac interface.  Another controller may not have the issue.  I didn't think of that.

That's interesting/confusing, as on my Android 11 phone I don't appear to have any + and - butttons.

In a former firmware there was an error if you mixed volume control via remote control and an upnp app, so that in the app the volume raised to 100%. This was fixed, but it seems there are some edge cases left, where this can still happen. Maybe not in an app, but in the web gui.

Because i usually do not use the web gui I do not know how often this issue would happen. From time to time I have used the web gui without any problem regarding volume control, but I remember one case where it did happen before. It is enough to start the web GUI. You do not need to touch the volume control for the issue to occur.

If someone can find a way to reproduce the problem, this would be a good start for bug hunting.

maybe the bug is in the mac interface.

What do you mean with "mac interface"? The safari browser? In my case it happened with firefox in linux.

For info. you don't need a specific app. If you just enter the same path in a browser on your phone as you would on a laptop then you are greeted with a mobile-friendly result. I have a shortcut to this saved as an icon on my phone's first 'desktop' page and use this.

Edit: Bubble upnp is a free Android app that many like though.

In Bubbleupnp you can set on screen + and - volume buttons that are very safe to use.

Was this what you were referring to in you post earlier in this thread?

What app do you use on android?

Normally I am using an apple iPad with the lumin or linn app. But this requires a BubbleUpnPServer installation in your network, configured as openhome proxy in front of the SHD streamer. The linn app (the old black or the new white one) works fine but the lumin app has a better GUI IMHO. Unfortunately the lumin app often looses connection to the bubble server and you need to restart it frequently.

On android I am using the BubbleUPnP app, but also against the bubble upnp server.
