Dear All,

For those of you who might have a corrupted Volumio Configuration, unable to access their web page, please note that it's indeed possible to reset it with a simple THUMB drive with the below instructions. We'll make sure to add them to our upcoming new user manual being updated for a good reason.. ;-)

Hoping this helps you! Feel free to start a support ticket with our team if any questions.

Factory Reset Via USB Thumb Drive
• Get a USB thumb drive
• Format your USB thumb drive as: FAT32
• Download the factory reset file from: repo.volumio.org/Primo/factory_reset
• Copy the file on the thumb drive and make sure it's called exactly "factory_reset" (Do not rename this after download)
• Remove power from the SHD
• Insert the thumb drive into the USB of the streamer
• Apply power to the SHD and turn the unit ON with the remote (out of standby). It will reset the unit for you.
 IMPORTANT: During this phase the unit might restart multiple times and this factory reset will take about ten minutes.

• Volumio will now be back to the factory default stored on your SD card. You will want to upgrade to the latest version found under the Web GUI interface of Volumio.

Can I clarify this point please? If I turn my SHD on with the power switch on the rear then it is 'on' rather than in 'standby'. If I put it into standby (by holding down the control knob on the front of the SHD and releasing at the right time) then it is impossible to bring it back out of standby by using my (original version) remote control. What I have to do is press the conrtol knob on the front of the SHD itself.

I normally leave my SHD on all of the time but when I do occasionally turn it off with the switch at the back it oftern takes turning it off and on again a few times before Volumio starts OK. I was therefore thinking I'd try the reset you've posted about but want to be sure about the process before I try

Thanks.

Copy the link to your browser. It downloads a 1kb file containing only the text "factory_reset".

When I restarted the SHD it seemed to power on in 10 seconds just as always. So I presumed it didn't work.
After 10 minutes waiting it showed up again in the network and I found it had done a full reset afterall.

I got my SHD yesterday, and I was able to connect to the Volumio web. It played (some) radio stations, I was able to use Tidal and also sound from TV via optical.
So my plan for today was to look into dirac etc .. but now Volumio is acting up...
When starting the Volumio today, Tidal was gone, and none of the radio stations would play. Noticed appearance was a bit different .instead of "settings" it would say "Common.settings" etc.
Tried to use the USB stick about 10 tines now, but no luck. It is not possible to connect to radio, not possible to connect to Tidal, and if I try to update, nothing happens.....

EDIT: As with most technical issues.....
USER ERROR!
My internett/TV provider has a dedicated LAN port for TV in their router, and I mixed up the Ethernet cables...My bad!

Edit: Scratch that. It's alive now. Perhaps I just did not wait long enough?
I'll give the factory_reset file a try anyway, just to make sure that I'm starting from a known good state before I attempt to update firmware, etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What if the SHD fails to boot at all? When I connect networking, power, and switch it on, this is all that I see on the display:
I've tried pressing the knob, but there are no changes. I do not see the SHD on my network.
Will this factory reset procedure work in this case, or do I need a new microSD card for the internal NanoPi NEO2 computer?
I've just deployed some update from within Volumio interface settings and my router doesn't see SHD-studio anymore, though it is connected. will this procedure apply to my case as well?
does it erase also my Dirac presets?
I did not install volumio, so I think I cannot do a factory reset with the USB drive. And I really need to do a factory reset because today, suddenly, when I turned the SHD on, the display showed 0.0 dB  and then it powered off..  I never ever set 0.0 dB, so somehow something when wrong. There was no signal to my fronts/subs so nothing is broken.. I powered the SHD off, and ON. Same thing happens. The volume is set at 0.0dB and then within a few seconds it powers off. I also tried a factory reset with the USB method, and i I tried 2 different USB sticks.. It did not work.
How do I reset the SHD to factory settings using the reset button at the back? I tried powering it OFF, then pusing the reset button, Power ON, and then use the remote control to put it on and I got the message: DSP OFF. Nothing happens. I also tried POWER ON, reset button, put in on with the remote.. And got the same message: DSP OFF.
I'd contact miniDSP support if I were you but the following is probably the right way to do what you're asking about:
Hi, sounds like there's absolutely nothing wrong with your unit.
The o.o db setting means your volume control is at unity...  its normal until you set up the dsp software and assign the inputs and outputs. All of which you must perform via the downloaded shd  software and linking your computer to your mini DSP via USB.
 if for example you were to rotate the volume knob counterclockwise you would see 0 DB  start to decreasde to -xx.x db.
 the fact that it shuts off is probably not the unit itself turning off,  it's probably the auto dim feature.  To be honest, I think it's a stupid feature but it's something they installed on some of the newer firmware updates where it literally just dims the screen after so many seconds...again that's something you have to reset and change inside the software.
 Once you get the software set up aside from the remote control you can control many features directly from the volume knob . Pushing in the volume knob  in and holding it down I believe engages the mute and pressing it in and holding it down slightly will engage Dirac live all of which again needs to be programmed using the software. A slight press in and rotating clockwise in counterclockwise will adjust the input source .
If I am misunderstanding your message then perhaps you may explain a little bit more as to what you did.. what steps you took Etc what parts you have set up,  if any , and then we can go from there. But in general, until you actually do all the software setup...assigning the inputs and outputs, setting up the DSP,  setting up the Crossovers , Etc it's going to show zero DB and more than likely if the auto dim is engaged it will shut the screen down within a few seconds as well.  So,  you need to do the software first.
I am using the unit for several months now; routing and crossovers were all fine. Also DIRAC was working well.  Yesterday, suddenly, when I used the remote control to turn it on, it decided to start at 0.0 dB and then fortunately it shut itself down before it could do any harm. But I am a bit afraid this might happen again and that the unit will damage my speakers and subs. 0.0 is just too loud.
Also I guess it wasn't the auto dim function (it's not engaged). I could hear it shut down (soft clicks and the red light turned on). It never started with 0.0dB, it always started with the latest volume setting that I used before shutting it down with the remote.
I had to perform a reset and then connecting it to the plugin (I forgot about connecting to the plugin). Then I was able to synchronise the board and all settings were back (routing, DIRAC). I still would like to know how to perform a "hard" factory reset without the plugin? Is that even possible?
I'm not 100% certain but I don't think SHDs usually default to 0 dB. There are situations where people will want to use this setting but it's not somewhere you want to end up unintentionally.
