I've been looking to set up a new 2.1 system with simplicity in mind.  In general, the only sources will be Spotify (streamed from phone or computer) and a TV.  After looking for sometime at integrated amps with Dirac and hdmi or toslink connections, I have settled on either the Arcam SA30 or a setup with the SHD & amp.  (MiniDSP setup being nearly $1k cheaper)

Keeping simplicity in mind I have a few musts:
1. I would like this 2.1 system to power on when the TV does and be controllable with the TV remote. (If possible, I would like to use the standard Sony remote and not a universal remote) Has anyone had any luck with programming the SHD to learn the Sony remote? Or is there another way to power on the SHD when the TV turns on?
2. When the SHD powers on, the amp also turns on.  What is the general consensus on this with the SHD? 12V trigger via USB?

Have you considered any of the NAD products that provide Dirac Live functionality? As you twice stressed simplicity my gut reaction is that an SHD may not be for you. I use and like an SHD but this is because of it's more advanced functionality beyond Dirac Live but your stressing simplicity makes me think you probably won't use these.

Thanks for the response, Ultrasonic.  I have looked into the M10, but wanted to consider all my options - especially considering the many negative reviews of that unit. Also, as I am somewhat new to hifi, I would like to be able to tinker more in the future, potentially with Tidal, incorporating a sub, etc which is why Im leaning towards SHD.

As for "simplicity", Im mainly considering convenience of hitting one button and turning on TV, audio all in one. (My SO will especially appreciate this).

So is there a way to program the SHD to turn on with the TV - either by learning the Sony remote or by other means?  And is the USB 12V trigger from USB the best way to trigger the amp to power up?

An NAD C658 into your power amp or active speakers of choice is an alternative to the M10, and was actually what I hand in mind. I'd personally avoid Tidal due to the negative impact of MQA. If Qobuz is available where you live and you are happy with the music catalogue then I'd suggest this as the best for sound quality. I believe Spotify are also about to launch a lossless streaming option which may well be a good option for your.

Integrating a subwoofer is where an SHD would be a superior option, provided you're prepared to spend a bit of time learning how to do this and making measurements to do so. Subwoofer integration is the number one reason that I use miniDSPs.

I don't recall seeing anyone write about managing to get an SHD to turn on with a TV, and I've not tried myself. I've also not personally ever looked into trying to get an SHD to turn on a power amp with a trgger input, since mine doesn't have one.
