We know that some hardware revisions don't have any good indication whether it's on standby or active. Only the most recent hardware revisions may have some features for this in the usb host, but we who have older models don't have that. Has anyone come up with in concept that works to trigger power amps when SHD is activated and exits standby mode?

I can think of 3 possibilities:
  1. Master-slave powerstrip that will sense increased power consumption. I got no idea if this will work, since SHD power consumption doens't seem to vary much when entering standby...
  2. Signal sensing circuitry connected to SHD digital or analog out, that would output trigger signal when music is actually playing and keep it on for at least 15 minutes. Requires DIY.
  3. Some sort of usb-dongle plugged to SHD usb host that can recognize when the device is activated. This would take a microcontroller that's programmed to act as usb-device and communicate with the SHD, and raise trigger out voltage at the right time. But I don't know if SHD actually signals active state through usb in any way. Requires DIY or if miniDSP could sell this as an accessory, it would be great.
Anything other you know or might have tried?

With a SHD Studio I've had good luck with something similar to your option 2. I use a Bobwire DAT1 with a SPDIF to TOSLINK converter. If you mute the SHD or put it in standby the DAT1 trigger will shut off after 45 seconds, once you unmute or bring the SHD out of standby the DAT1 triggers the amp immediately. Important to note that normal digital silence (i.e. having nothing playing through the SHD) does not cause the DAT1 trigger to stop, you actually need to mute or standby.

Only issue with this setup is that the DAT1 is quite expensive for what it is and the need for two extra boxes.

@Jukka

Unfortunately no real work around here for older version... But how about some good old IR to Relay setup?
Maybe a tiny board like this one? www.aliexpress.com/item/32824183181.html

We could see if we could organize such device I guess using +12V in, IR (of the SHD code for standby), delayed output.. Would anybody find this useful as a workaround?
