Other than the streamer, the biggest functional difference of the SHD Studio is that it has 4 independent out put channels rather than two, which should you ever make the (wise) decision to integrate a subwoofer into your system you would appreciate.

Checking out the specs of the two units the SHD Studio has what appears to be a more capable DSP chip but to what extent this may affect performance I'm not sure.

Personally I'd probably pay the not much extra to get the SHD model. Being newer it is more likely to be supported for longer as well as the points above, and it will also be a more attractive item to sell on if you ever find yourself wanting to.

Ahem, me again Ultrasonic!
Given how good the bass is on the Edifier S3000pros would you still recommend adding a sub to these?  What sub are you using? Thanks.

Ha! I've just finished replying to your other post and then saw this. I'd recommend adding a subwoofer to pretty much any speakers  . But yes, I'm using my S3000s above 100 Hz with a Power Sound Audio S1510 subwoofer being used below 100 Hz. You wouldn't need a sub anything like as capable as this to make an improvement though. I use my sub for movies as well where I can push it at times but for music it has way more output capability than is really beneficial (in my modestly sized room).

I'd get an SHD Studio and see what you can achieve with your current speakers. Then see if you can get a subwoofer to demo, or buy one second hand at a price you can sell on for little loss if it doesn't work out. And see what you think.
