How is it supposed to work?
I cant get any sound in the headphones or anything to happen with the SHD studio when i plug a headphone in the front.
The plugin software don't have any option i can see that helps me, tried all the routing buttons in all kind of orders.
I have a headphone amps and dacs lying around but i want to test the SHD studio's headphone amp qualities.

Hardware setup is: windows 10 pc connected to SHD studio with usb, into dac's and power amps for speakers. and set of headphones.
i tried toslink and played with sample rates and exclusive modes in windows.

SOLVED, now to get to know the software better :)

I don’t have that model, but understand that outputs 3&4 drive the headphone jack. Have you programmed it to send the signal there?

i have tried all the outputs, but the manual states: "Headphone output. The signal on this output jack follows output channels 1 and 2."

I thought it was output 3&4, but as I say I don’t know that model. I would set it up to route your stereo L&R inputs to outputs 1&2 and also 3&4 and try that, if you haven’t done that. Also check the volumes to make sure the gain is set up correctly.

thanks, i dont know what you told me that made it happen. but now i get sound.
still wish the headphone mute everything else, so i don't have to turn of my poweramp to my speakers or unplug it.
perhaps there is a way. its only been a week so i am getting the hang of this minidsp slowly.

Glad it’s working now. Remember you have 4 presets that you can store settings in. So for preset 1, just route your stereo signal to outputs 1&2 and send to your power amps/speakers.

Set up preset 2 to route your stereo signal to outputs 3&4 but don’t have anything going to outputs 1&2. Your headphones should then pick this up (assuming 3&4 feed the headphone jack), and your power amps/speakers obviously won’t get anything from 1&2 as theres no signal going there.

Then simply switch between the two presets to either listen to speakers or headphones. Hope that helps a bit more.

i have been looking into this, and 1&2 is headphone.
this creates a problem if i need 3 or more channels, like with my stereo speakers and subwoofer.
i can not for the life of me seperate the 1&2 outputs in the back and the 1&2 headphone output in the front.
the sdh studio has 4 digital outputs over spdif and aes-ebu, all stereo signal, thats 8 channels.
but the naming says 1&2 3&4in pairs, but the routing menu has 4 outputs on a horizontal list then a second row that is dirac 2, making 8 routing buttons i can press.
this is all confusing to me. not to mention dirac is involved why i don't understand, and presets on the minidsp unit is called config in the plugin, assuming it is the same.

Ah ok. As I say I don’t have the Studio so maybe others can help. You’re right, the manual says outputs 1&2 are connected to headphone socket (I thought the data sheet said 3&4). I don’t know how the headphone output works, whether it automatically mutes the other outputs or whether they work in tandem. I’ve got the SHD but can also control my speakers/amps via remote, so can switch things on/off when listening through headphones.

my remote only does inputs and presets.
i was thinking if using optical input just for headphones but still its the output that is the problem.
i have to say that i was impressed by the headphone section, my expensive bel canto dac into 20 watt class a headphone amp sound very similar on my Sony MDR-Z7.

i hope that a software update can make life easier, for example automatically engage a separate preset just for headphones on plug inn, with no ties with the digital outputs.
i am having a blast with tweaking things, but it seems like there is more hardware features than the software allows for.

It sounds like the headphone output is always active along with a couple of the Studio outputs. In which case you’d need a way to switch off your headphones when listening to speakers (just unplug them?) and vice versa, switch off your amps when listening through headphones. I do the latter by simply switching input in my speaker amp to an unused one (I have a programmable remote for that, so it’s all automated).

unplugging headphones would be better option if thing were more automated in software, i also don't like unplugging plugging things, i have separate analog headphone amp i can use so its all ready to go and not unplugging needed, only need to power of my poweramp and switch preset on the studio. since my main dac also does the mains speakers but uses the xlr so the rca are free to be used on headphone amp.
Am in a small room so poweramp is within arms reach.
