After upgrading to Volumio 1.094 the Wireless USB dongle stopped working (it is the standard TP-Link WN725). Volumio reboots with wireless off, and fails to switch it on with a red failure windows (which pops-up and disappears too fast). Similar to what was happening when I tried a more modern wireless dongle, so it looks like Volumio lost support for that device, which was the suggested one. Anyone with the same issue (or not), any hint?

To get more info, a volumio log would be very helpful.
Instructions for creating a log can be found in our documentation:
Please post the returned url here.
TP-Link WN725 has various versions and they may not all be based on the the same wireless chipset, therefore requiring different drivers.
The log may give a hint why the wireless does not start and whether this is because of the new 1.94 version.

Thanks.
Read the log and believe you unplugged/reinserted the dongle a few times, but the driver is not being loaded.
Need to compare this with the previous version.

Thanks. Indeed I inserted the dongle few times, and tried few times to enable the wireless from the system menu.
BTW, using the dongle in a laptop, It is recognised as Realtek RTL8188EU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter, so that must be the chip (I'm using it presently for this connection, so no doubt it works).

As far as I know, there is no easy way to rollback to the previous version, right?

Confirmed, unfortunately the driver is missing in the new kernel for v1.94,
Support for RTL8188EU dongles will be fixed in the next version update.

Thanks a lot for the fast answers! Any ETA for the next version? And, I was using that dongle because it was the suggested one, but it is rather subpar wrt the rest of my wireless environment. Any suggestion for something supported and more performant (e.g. supporting 5 GHz etc)? I know, I should improve my linux proficiency.

it is very difficult for me to advice a good dongle, as this also depends on local circumstances.
Realtek rtl8188eu and Ralink rt5370 are considered widely available, very stable with good performance and tested with both the shd unit versions.
The only advice I would give is to skip the "nano" dongle versions but instead get one with a large antenna.

Developers shouldn't mention ETAs ;)
Also see the info here , there is certification involved in the next version.

Thank you. I know, I should not have mentioned ETA, apologies ;-)

More than a good dongle, the most useful information would be what is presently supported in 1.94 (if any). I had tried in the past a USB adapter with the antenna (the "archer" series from TP Link), but it was not supported. But maybe I will just wait, I'm sure that the pressure to get the new release in high, I know about the certification, we are all waiting for Roon.

as an alternative, I have succesfully tested this wifi bridge:
www.tp-link.com/nl/home-networking/range-extender/tl-wa850re/
less than $20. worked also in situations where the small wifi dongle gave issues . connects to your wifi and then wired ethernet to the SHD
and as added bonus, the USB host port remains available for e.g. an usb stick or disc with music

Yes Juoigâ, considered that too, but I have an Orbi mesh wireless network, and I suspect that an indipendent wireless extender may mess it up.
