I got a new DAC that can play DSD and I want to try it.

I looked in the SHD manual and I think it can only play PCM 24bit / 96kHz, is that right?

Depending on the input the manual says it can accept up to 216 kHz or 192 kHz, with the 96 kHz figure you've found being what it works with internally (up or downsampling as required to this) and also what it outputs.

I don't think DSD though. Forum member @RichB has posted about some issues of trying to play converted and downsampled DSD files in this thread, although they may be more due to the recent hardware and software changes than anything else:

DSD playback via Roon converts to high-bit rate LPCM and the internal Roon Bridge has pops with the current firmware and new Neo3 hardware. DSD via LPCM plays fine via a RPI3 connected to the USB port.

I think the DAC chip accepts DSD but the interface is not advertising that to Roon. In any case, DSD is converted to PCM before it can be processed by Dirac/PEQ.
