Hi all,
I just got my SHD 2 days back.

A
  • t the moment, I have a HTPC served as Logitech Media Server and Logitech Transporter to play all the FLACs I have. Also installed Tidal plugin on it. Yet even with iPeng, the GUI is pretty basic that it doesn't provide those 'Tidal Radios' and other similar singer/album/songs that I can jump to. However it provides best sound quality.
  • I also have a Chromecast Audio, I can play Tidal from my mobile and cast to it. Tidal app is good for me to find new songs etc but the Chromecast Audio output is not as good as the Transporter in reg to sound quality.
  • Earlier I've tried Roon. Installed Roon server on my HTPC (disabled LMS) and play it on the Transporter. Works with no issues but sound quality is similar to the Chromecast Audio and still worse than LMS+Transporter. It's really hard to believe as Roon is built for sound quality as well, maybe it just because Transporter is not Roon certified...
  • I also got a good USB->RCA adaptor.

[/ul]Anyway, now I got more choices since I got the SHD.

First of all, Volumio sucks. I tried to connect it to my HTPC music share, (well, it's over 4TB...) it started scan for a few sec found 200+ albums then hung/stops. In home, album/singer, everythings shows 'no item'. The Tidal plugin is also super basic. It's even worse than the LMS tidal plugin. I had good hope for Volumio since it has super larger user base, however it's not even up to the LMS (which basically a 10 years old product).
Also Volumio Squeezebox play lite plugin seems having issues all the time. So it's a no for me.

Earlier I thought if SHD can be a perfect streamer, then the Transporter can be decommissioned. Seems very diffucult to do so.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Cheers
Tom

I've had a SHD for quite a while and am still using LMS, piCorePlayer + Allo Digione to the SPDIF input and Orange Squeeze or iPeng apps as the interface. Can't be beat :)

Suggest you try Roon again once the SHD is certified.

PS: Squeezebox is nearly 20!

PPS: Earlier thread on Squeezelite in Volumio, once working I didn't have any problems with it but preferred the above.

Thanks. Yep, I've already got a Transporter (which is a ModWright modified analog output), analog output at this time is not working that I'm waiting for some parts to fix.

I suppose I'll just keep the Transporter till later test Roon again, then seek other options.
