+ 100 on adding Tidal Connect integration to the SHD

As of now, it is much easier to control playback via the Spotify app and would love to have the same for Tidal. From what I am reading, interfacing through Volumio doesn't seem to be very user-friendly and certainly not something I want to have to teach my wife to do.

On a tangent, is using Roon currently the best way (eg. easiest from a UI perspective while still maintaining audio quality) to stream Tidal through the SHD?

I think you should try Volumio for yourself as whilst it could certainly be improved on I wouldn't describe it as somehow difficult to use.

To me it’s not about whether I can find what I’m looking for, but whether I am able to take advantage of the full service that I pay Tidal for. That is, finding me new artists, alerting me to new albums/singles from favorite artists, offering all kinds of playlists, and playing “artist radio” after I finish an album if that’s what I’m in the mood for. Not to mention a slick UI which they deliver on.

Volumio gets the job done, but only if I have something in mind going in. It’s horrendous for browsing or finding something new. Even just seeing a track in a playlist or search return and wanting “Go to Artist” or “Go to Album” isn’t available, that’s only available for the track that is playing at that moment. I often load up the Tidal app to see what I want to play then decide and go into Volumio to find it.

Luckily Volumio updated about a week ago saying they’re making good progress on Tidal Connect. Hopefully once they have it launched a plugin for our SHD series isn’t too far off.

Looks like Volumio has completed the integration and sent a unit to Tidal for certification. However, this may still take quite some time to be available in a version for the SHD

That is terrific news. Here’s to a quick certification and delivery to the SHD series. I’m hopeful since it seems we got the newer Volumio UI pretty quickly after everyone else did.

As of today, Volumio has launched their Tidal Connect update. Certified and everything.

Please let miniDSP know you’d like this update on your SHD series device. Now that Roon is mostly out of the way (famous last words, but it looks for real this time), hopefully Tidal Connect can happen without much delay.

Yes, would be good to hear from the MiniDSP @devteam as to when we can expect this functionality to become available for the SHD series.

I would not expect to hear from them. They have a policy about not discussing upcoming features, especially about the timeline until delivery. Roon certification is the only exception to that, and they point to it as a reason they will remember to not make exceptions in the future.

So we’ll have to be patient, and really the only thing you can do to signal interest is send them an email / open a ticket. I did as much, and noted that I knew they couldn’t tell me anything. They had a polite reply that that was that. Hope to see it soon.

I'm really waiting for Tidal Connect.

Now I'm running both Tidal app and Bubbleupnp to stream to SHD with Tidal for discovering new music and Bubbleupnp for streaming. Would be great to use Tidal app only.

+1 for integration, this is the reason why i am currently not using tidal

If anyone is really impatient you can have the same effect as tidal connect but using a Google Chromecast (doesn't need to be Chromecast audio,I picked up a standard second gen for £7) and cheap hdmi to toslink/coax adapter.

I've done this for less than £20 and it works well. I wasn't expecting Tidal connect for some time and really hate the volumio app and this bypasses it almost completely.

You can even control the volume as you'd expect normally from tidal or your phone's rocker.
