months and months later nothing

They're slow...

Hopefully this will be rolled out soon!

I got tired of waiting... Recently I decided to build a media center PC, to use as a retro gaming console emulator, and modern console with an Xbox bluetooth remote.

Best of all, it's now my permanent USB input to the MiniDSP!  So I can actually unfold to 24Bit/96kHz on the PC and force that full bitstream to the MiniDSP!  (and since I'm using my TV as a monitor, now I have proper Tidal on my TV!)
The audible difference is palpable!  Absolutely huge improvement over what the SHD is capable of doing over ethernet!  It's totally undeniable even to my 'uninitiated' non-audiophile friends!

It's a real shame the streamer front-end part of the SHD is such trash...  There's absolutely no way that it's passing actual 24bit to the SHARC DSP core from Volumio with the vast majority of programs that I can feed to LAN.  Totally garbage, and such false advertising!

@MiniDSP Dev Team: Please get faster with your updates, so that we can actually have a full-feature streamer!

I was kind of thinking that myself actually but I wasn't going to say anything. But considering this product has been out and when Tidal connect .. which was out before this despite argument.. moved out of being on proprietary devices only, this has been a regrettable purchase. I have now come to the conclusion that we overpaid a good $400 for this. Because there is lots of DAC that sound better that are half the price. Of course part of the price is Dirac but those devices also pay for mqa so I think it's pretty even. This is basically an over glorified room control preamp with 30%. If I was only using this for room control or act of crossover then I would have nothing to say about this. But that is not how they marketed this device. Until these features actually show up like they promised it is false advertising as far as I'm concerned. There's devices half the cost with more features and comparable sound quality. The missing features on this device were supposed to make up the difference of cost and so for all we've heard is blame being passed over to Tidal . All of these other companies have had no problem pushing them to get their certification completed and on their device. Why is mini DSP doing nothing? Just sit and waiting in the corner. Last device I ever purchase from. mini dsp!

Exactly. Tiny, new companies like WiiM got their $80 USD streamer device Tidal Connect no problem. Even Volumio had it 16 months ago. Volumio for miniDSP? Still not here. I don’t care if they deliver it this afternoon, it’s still embarrassing.

Speaking of WiiM, and anyone out there with one would agree with me, the speed at which this little company fixes bugs and adds features through constant automatic firmware and app updates is incredible. It’s like a night and day scenario between them and miniDSP. At this point even if my SHD gets Tidal Connect I will probably still use WiiM Mini into toslink because I know I can trust that little steamer to always be the best, most up to date device it can be. A far cry from what I can say about my SHD.

Anyone want to take bets on when the SHD will get the new Device Console platform?

I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a new version of this before they even have the feature ready. Kind of reminds me of a few of the media boxes from the same part of the world. Advertising features they want to have without even knowing if they can get certified. my respect for this company is completely gone. Thanks for reminding me that volumo I had it for 16 months  That just adds on top of how bad this is. Even they were late to the party. I should have bought a matrix element for the same price with full certification and mqa. I only bought this because of minidsp previous reputation. Obviously they have a new mentality in the company. Promise things you can't deliver

We wish we had an update but it sounds from the tone of this thread that we wouldn't be able to appease much of the anger here.. :-(

The facts we can share is that we've sent over 10 emails to Tidal to follow up.. Once every 4-5days... Unfortunately still no update I'm afraid. The device has been shipped Early July, it's indeed already working and our friends at Volumio can attest... To clarify, Volumio simply didn't need to go through the same process as miniDSP as it's not a hardware company so the certification process is different. SHD is quite a bit more complex in the integration (DSP + Streamer = Latency). Same applies to Roon Ready process basically. We're now seeing with Volumio team if they have another contact @ Tidal able to help..

Please note on the comment that we never advertised "Tidal Connect" on any of our manual/datasheet/product page though.. We announced to the community that we'd add Tidal connect at the last newsletter few weeks ago when it worked. We had received the confirmation that the feature was all integrated  and that Tidal team would only take few weeks to finalize the process. So we shipped them a sample back in July... Unfortunately they seem to have been extremely backlogged on their testing (1month break for Engineers in Sweden). We were just trying to share that things advanced at that stage.

And yes, miniDSP DC is indeed already working for SHD series.. :-) We are just releasing it in batches for platform in the following order to make sure we get the chance to correctly support our community. Flex Eight / Flex / SHD / DDRC24 / 2x4HD

Similar to Roon Ready where we unfortunately had some delays outside our control, I'm sure that Tidal will pull the resources to finalize the certification on their side and we'll be able to add that feature. :-)

can you elaborate on this please? can this be used to trigger power amp on/off? (I have the SHD version that does not shut off usb power, so cannot use it as trigger)

What an absolute shock that the customers of your flagship device are frustrated that you waited 22 months and 9 pages on your own forum to finally make a single acknowledgement of this conversation. And it starts by blaming us for our tone. Unbelievable. Deflect blame and accuse your customers of unfair criticism, that’s mostly what you do here, but don’t think we don’t notice.

I've been silent since I read that but I'm glad you came out and pointed that out. Honestly that is disgraceful attitude to blame your customer. On that Merit alone I don't care what product you ever release or how good it is you will never have my business again. your a deplorable company! I hope every customer walks away from you and I hope you get fired for your conduct towards me. I am your paying customer I have a right to ask questions over features that you said you're going to include. Just because you didn't say it at lunch doesn't mean you can use it as a reason to not have a feature. For the record I purchased this after you said you were going to have it and after roon support was already added. So yes you did false advertise to newer customers like myself. This company can burn. How dare you talk to me like that. Minidsp has just showing their true colors to be another arrogant disrespectful company. Time to boycott

I hope everyone here reads how condescending the development team was. They literally could have apologized and made an explanation but instead chose to attack their consumer. I hope everyone stops purchasing their products and they can suffer Financial loss for this disgraceful attitude

I think there is a big chance to misread the sentence from the dev team that you find so offending. In my understanding it is just a very realistic estimation of the situation as your reactions just show.

Kind of sounds like you work for the company posing as a user to try and smooth it out. There's no misunderstanding, the dev team blatantly blamed the customer for requesting an update on a feature that was promised. Doesn't matter when it was promised, it was promised. And if you also use any form of logical reasoning, the fact that they are so public about using Volumio as they're streaming core also implies that you will have all of the features as that streaming platform evolves. 22 months later and it's not even remotely close to the same version number. We understand that there are some core differences in the nature of how this product works, but coming back on the customer for a lack of explaining that sooner is completely unacceptable. How dare you support that attitude from these companies that make millions of dollars on the backs of people who are under the impression they are buying something that is going to be kept current with the streaming platform they brag about. Consumers like you are the problem in the market because you allow these big companies to Stomp all over us and they know that people like you are always going to be Fanboys and follow them regardless of their blunders and mistreatment of the consumer.

You are also under the wrong impression of what I'm getting at. And my happy that they finally informed us? Yes I am but the fact that they informed us as to the reason while simultaneously insulting the consumer just shows how little they care about what we think of their product. If the explanation had come without insult majority of people would have just simply said thank you , we wish you would have said it sooner but at least we know. But that response was not purposed on giving us an explanation but rather trying to silence users and make them look bad for asking questions that should be asked. And you gobbled up the manipulative response to the question! You don't get it and why the other user made a comment on my behalf.

Well, no, I am not related to the company in any way. I am just a customer. Not even a fanboy. Maybe I can keep calm because I am using an external steamer anyway because I do not like the volumio GUI and I want to be able using qobuz with an open home control app.

But I think it does not help you if you react so hardly annoyed. Either keep the fingers crossed or sell the device and choose another vendor.

A public apology to all of the consumers who solely purchased this for the Volumio steaming support that is more than 1 year behind would have been the appropriate response. And an apology for condescending to the consumer would also be appropriate.
