Roon can enable SHD while you wait for the firmware upgrade. See my posts from the previous page.

SHD is a great product and as I want to use external DACs (non-ROON certified) with it, I have purchased a certified ROON endpoint "opticalRendu for Roon isolation combo" from which I feed into the SHD USB port. Major sound improvement! However, it is quite an expensive solution, unfortunately.

In the latest miniDSP Newsletter which I received on October 20th, they said this about the issue:

- Roon Ready Certification: The final touches are ongoing but with a slight delay as can happen for complex implementations. Customers of SHD/SHD Studio/SHD Power platforms will soon receive a free upgrade in coming weeks. Thanks again for your patience!

Thanks for the info!

They never claimed it was Roon Ready. Certification is finalized and I believe we are just waiting on a firmware update. In the meantime you can enable Roon Bridge in Volumio and get 80-90% of Roon Ready functionality.

 If I understood the messages above correctly, I use the SHD with Roon Bridge in Volumio at 80/90% of its possibilities ..... What will the certification bring, what is the 10/20% that missing ?
Sorry for my ignorance :S

Does "free upgrade" simply mean a firmware update, or does the hardware need to be updated to handle the final changes necessary to achieve ROON Readiness (IIRC I read a post somewhere from miniDSP saying that achieving ROON Ready certification might mean needing to pass significantly more information to the SHD device than had been previously anticipated)?

With the latest Roon update today the MiniDSP SHD Studio is not seen anymore even with a Dev account. I think it is high time for a statement. Is the Roon Certification still going to happen or was it dropped?

@devteam is basically AWOL from these boards. They didn't even bother to post the availability of new SHD firmware in the announcements section - I guess those who were having the issues that the firmware fixed were just supposed to check the downloads section every day. Anyway, since you now have a broken feature I'd suggest submitting a support ticket, otherwise I don't think the devteam (or devpartimeperson?) ever checks this thread.

First part wasn't my experience - I did the upgrade and it still works with Roon, and is still labelled Uncertified.

+1 for the second part - and update would be good,

I don't see any SHD firmware in the Downloads section. All they have is Datasheets and Manuals: www.minidsp.com/support/downloads

Am I missing something?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just saw that there's a separate "User Downloads" section: www.minidsp.com/userdownloads

I just bought a SHD. Figured that this would be sorted by now - guess I’m going to have to beg the Roon guys to give me a dev account.

That only works if you owned a SHD prior to the September Roon policy change. I learned this the hard way after submitting a ticket to Roon for dev access and then waiting a week for them to deny my request.

Note that you can enable Roon bridge in Volumio. You'll get all of the benefits of Roon Ready except for device volume control, I believe.

Hmm, looks like I’m going to have to beg harder then.

Thanks for the backup plan! Although, loss of volume control is a pretty big deal! (I know, there is still the remote)

Hi there, I seem to be running into trouble getting Roon working on my SHD which finally arrived.

Volumio Roon Bridge is installed and enabled. But the only thing I see in Roon is the "miniDSP SHD" device which is uncertified so I can't enable it. Is there something special that I need to do to get Volumio working while waiting on the final Roon ready firmware update?

Thanks

- edit -

All set and running now. Figured it out. Got Roon feeding the SHD and just finished setting up Dirac. Sound is cleaner than what I had accomplished with my home made convolution filter. DAC is better than the one in my Sonos. Very happy with this purchase.
