What happened the good old say "No news is good news?" :-)

We stated this few times already but happy to repeat: We can't provide timeline I'm afraid. If we were to tell you a date, we'd get flamed. If we don't, we get flamed... There is REALLY no win win situation here as we'll never be able to make everybody happy.. :-(

Unfortunately something called a Covid19 pandemic put a giant spanner into our engineering schedule making working with some of our partners in charge of some element of dev a lot more difficult, something called the largest audio fab house in the world (akm) going on fire and wiping out all stocks worldwide also put a spanner into our schedule by requiring us to put a lot of effort to make sure everybody gets product, something called supply chain constrain where almost all manufacturers in electronic are struggling to keep up with .....

So YES, we've been busier than before and in the process made the choice to focus on answering all our customers tech support ticket, YES, we indeed didn't update on a weekly basis on Roon but that doesn't mean we don't care, that doesn't mean we ignore you all... We do answer all support tickets when you have questions... I do think that keeping this community healthy matters. We don't need to be toxic to each others... We're just people, we can hear/listen/talk... :-)

As for the question that most of you care about: Roon dev is indeed progressing. To get it working well, we wanted to include few new updates to the latest Volumio build together with new Kernel. That's best for the long term instead of a quick fix.

As some of you might have learned, we had to move SHD series to a new streamer (prior one end of line). It's similar specs but it did require a complete new build 1.073. Like anything in engineering world, nothing is easy and that took a bit more time than expected to add few more features. That means Roon was a bit delayed but we're back on track finalizing as we speak.. Patience will prevail and we appreciate your support!

Hoping that clarifies

DevTeam

I'm curious to know if things are still progressing through the finalisation stages?

As for Roon-Ready support, all SHD units have now been in the testing queue @ RoonLabs Mid-May. We're all patiently waiting for the results and we look forward to sharing more ASAP we hear from them.

kind of makes you wonder:

1) Does the cert process take forever? Has Roon been sitting on it since May?
2) Is he cert process and requirements too complicated and it got kicked back to MiniDSP for more changes? Given the other posts, it sounds like a lot of work and changes went into trying to get this certification
3) Or is it the normal scapegoat - blame it on COVID?

There could be issues that required correction, then back in the queue it goes.

i don’t mean this in a snarky way, but you’d have to be crazy to think anyone’s going to get a straight answer until it’s all finished. it’s like asking about whether Tidal Connect or Dirac Live Bass Control are even possible or in the pipeline. it seems innocuous and something minidsp should communicate more clearly on, but they refuse, except in random spurts when they break their own stated policy of not saying anything.

It's indeed a valid question to ask.. :-)
- Unit been in the queue for 2month. We received the feedback for few issues. They are being worked out by the engineers. 3 of them being harder as they required modification of other parts of Volumio (upnp side/Volume control method).
- Volumio team is on a break this month but we're hoping they can incorporate these changes in September.
- We'll then send the updated firmware to the team.

Dumb question from a relative newbie here.  I'm about to click "buy" for an SHD with the belief I'll be able to upgrade to Roon later.  Is Roon support ONLY a firmware/software upgrade, or would a board/hardware need to be updated?  I don't mind buying an SHD now and waiting, but I'd hate to buy one then have to replace it 6 months from now to gain Roon support.  From what I can tell in this thread, it's simply software.

Hi. I have an SHD - I was fortunate enough to buy it before roon brought in their requirement that companies couldn’t release a product as roon ready until it had been fully tested by roon. Means I got developer status from roon and SHD works perfectly with roon - just shows as uncertified. There is another way that SHD can work with roon using a voluminous plugin. It’s not as good as using the roon ready connection but would work as an interim measure until SHD is fully certified.

I’m selling my SHD. Not because I don’t like it - think it’s the best audio product I have ever bought - I think of it as being the Swiss Army knife of DAC / processor devices. The flexibility and range of filters, crossovers and outputs - together with Dirac - make it unbeatable. The quality of the DAC conversion is up there with the best. The analogue input is very useful and high quality.

So why am I selling.? Simply because I’ve been fighting a rare blood cancer (myeloma) for 10 years now. Unfortunately it has recently changed into 2 rare and aggressive variants and prognosis from 2 consultants that I have run out of treatment options and have between 3 and 6 months left.

Although my wife loves listening to music she has no interest in the technical side. I think that programming the SHD is quite straightforward but there’s no way she would cope with it so that if something went wrong, if upgrades needed applying or if she moved house and wanted to recalibrate crossovers or Dirac she would be stuck.

So, as part of making a system that she can cope with I have just bought an Arcam AVR10. Nowhere near the facilities and range of the SHD but simple to change set up subwoofer and run Dirac (which I think are the two things that make the most difference to sound quality in my opinion).

My SHD was purchased about 18 months ago and looks like new.

If you are interested then please let me know.

Thanks, Mike

PS I am based in the UK.

@miket Very sorry to hear the news. If you're looking for a fast turn, you might want to post in the for sale section of AVR. They're big fans of mini-DSP products in that community and SHDs don't seem to list for very long.

Hi Devteam,
Can you please confirm when the Volumio team deliver the modification required for the next phase of Roon certification.
Chris
