In the SHD menu: settings -> my music -> Functionalities Control

There is a setting for "CD playback and Ripping."

What is this referencing? What is this option for? (secretly hoping its to allow a USB cd-drive for disc playback, which would be amazing!)

Thanks

I was able to connect an external USB CD-R drive, and play and RIP a CD to the internal memory of the SHD. MiniDSP should definitely provide more information about this as I don't even know how much internal memory the SHD has.

Wow had I known that I probably would have bought a SHD rather than DDRC24.

Having said that, I ripped all my CDs using EAC which checks for rip accuracy, is there any error checking done on the SHD?

Can you choose the format it’s ripped to?

Also, how do you move the rip from the CD to your NAS? Can you define the default storage location as somewhere on your network rather than the SHD?

Thanks

Do you have any option to change where the file is ripped to or to moved it after it has been ripped, in both cases to some form of internal storage?

I'm sure the internal storage will be pretty tiny, as it's intended purpose is for the OS/Volumio rather than data storage.

Yes, before you press on the RIP button,. you can choose the target, internal memory, USB memory (if any on the USB hub) and even the media server on your LAN.

I didn't find any option for the format of the files, and FLAC 32bit 44.1kHz seems to be the default. Couldn't find any option for error correction either...

Yes, when the contents of the CD shows, you can simply play it instead of ripping it. Please note however that it only worked for me with an USB CD player with an external power supply (The USB port of the SHD don't have enough power)

Which USB port (e-a or type-c) on the SHD did you use?
I tried to use an apple CD drive into the USB-C port and no action.

Hi ! I put the CD player in a hub connected to the port marked "USB Host" on the SHD Studio, it's a USB Type A..

Thanks for trying this out. Good work! Very cool if you don't want to Rip your cd's and just play them, or use the shd as a ripper.

Don't know about this as I don't have any DVD audio. If you try, let us know.
