Currently I am using mini dsp shd studio connected to my pre amp (rotel michi p5) through coax as a streamer and for room correction.

I have a svs sb4000 subwoofer, how can i integrate the sub into my system and be able to use dirac with the sub? Do i need to get a separate dac for the subwoofer or can i somehow get mini dsp shd studio and dirac to work with the sub connected to the pre amp?

Thanks

The simplest setup is to send the Rotel Michi p5 output to the svs sb4000 line input and then take the svs sb4000 line output to your power amp for the mains. You should use REW to make sure the sub is time aligned to the mains and balance the level of the sub so it sounds a bit too loud compared to the mains. Dirac will then adjust for an overall flat response and the sub will take bass load off the mains. This approach only works because Dirac can sort out integration. I do a similar thing with my system and it works exceptionally well when properly aligned.

A more traditional approach would be to get another DAC to drive the sub. You could then use crossover filters in the SHD to separate the frequency range across the sub and the mains. If your sub and mains don't naturally align too well you may get a better result this way.

I would try the first suggestion, it can use balanced connection all round it seems. See what sort of results you get and only get a second DAC if you can't get the results you want

Thank you for the reply, if i were to go with a seperate dac for the the subwoofer, what kind of specs should i be looking at for the dac? Does it make sense to get a dac that would allow me to use the xlr inputs of the subwoofer?

Also i dont think i have a seperate input i can use for the sub on my power amp there are 2 balanced 2 unblanced and theres a switcg to use one or the other

In neither case do you need a separate input on your power amp.

For the simplest case you unplug the p5 from the power amp and plug it into the sub line input instead. The sub line output then needs connecting to the power amp where the p5 used to be connected. The sub is acting as a pass-through for the signal and just tapping off what it needs to drive its own ample power amp. The sub is inserted between the p5 and the power amp.

With a separate DAC that goes between the SHD Studio and the sub.
