Hi!

I got my SHD Studio some days ago...

I would like to play audiofiles from my 1TB SSD drive (usb powered). When i connect it to the USB Port from the SHD, it starts indexing to about the half of the albums on it (all flac oder wav from 16bit 44,1khz to 24bit 96khz). In Volumio i can see the counter going up but suddenly it stops and it shows 0 albums/titles/playingtime.
When i connect the same drive to my alllo usbridge (rasperry pi transport also using Volumio), all the files are found and recognized correctly!
I already tried to format the drive fresh (once exfat and once ntfs) and copied the audio files again from my backup disc.
Any ideas what the problem could be? An Power issue? i could buy an active hub for powering the drive externally... is that an option?

Best,
Harald

My understanding is that Volumio does this if some files have errors. Most players would just ignore the files with errors but Volumio aborts the whole thing. The last person to suffer this found a utility which examined the files, checked them and repaired them if it could. After doing this Volumio successfully indexed the files. You will have to search the forumfor details,.

I will try to search and correct the files on my drive... strange thing is that my other transport -using volumio too- reads everything correctly.
I did some further testing with 2 other usb-drives and both of them work fine. But they are smaller and i can´t put all of my audiofiles on them.
My feeling is that only the SHD has a problem with my big drive. Its an USB3.1 case with a M2 SSD in it. I will get another drive to be sure.
Are there any recommendations? I would prefer a SSD and not a HD. Should be 1TB...

I believe the SHD has a custom build of Volumio. A similar thing happened to me too, it indexed a 256GB USB stick properly initially but suddenly stopped seeing it and nothing I did convinced it to index the files again, it tried but always ended up with zero. Around that time I got a second SHD and decided I wanted to share the files between both of them so I set up a DLNA server on an old Raspberry Pi that wasn't doing much. Both Volumio's seem to work reliably like that. Just a thought because with 4 USB sockets on recent Raspberry Pi's I could easily get to 1TB by inserting four 256GB sticks, There was obviously nothing seriously wrong with the USB stick because the Pi could read it without problems. Maybe it has ignored one or more bad files but I believe Volumio on SHD has a stupid mis-feature by throwing away everything on any indexing error. Enough folk have reported similar problems by now.

OK... i downloaded the free software "flac frontend" and checked my library for errors (slow process - lasted several hours) and i had some corrupted audiofiles in 2 albums. After deleting them my drive was indexing correctly and finally i can play my music!

i think there should be an update to just ignore broken audiofiles (or listing them) and not to quit the indexing process without an error message.

now back to listening... love the sound of the SHD Studio with my Denafrips Ares DACs instead of my former Minidsp 2x4!

Best, Harald
