Folks. Just started using this. So far so good but a couple of teething problems:
1. Unit intermittently unresponsive to the remote control (have tried Harmony 650 as well as the remote that came with the unit and a spare that I ordered). This lag / lack of responsiveness occurs on changing volume, and have noted also on switching inputs. Will press for example, volume up, then nothing may happen, then press again, again, then a second or two or three later, the volume may if I am lucky change, but I am often then unable to lower it again immediately as the machine appears pre-occupied with the prior commands I tried sending - in a manner the unit seems to freeze / lock - but after a few seconds may respond again. Physically using the volume dial works with no lag at this point incidentally and I have experimented with distance from the unit with the remote - it makes no difference.
Have experienced this 5 or so times today while it is intermittent - the unit is currently responding normally to remote commands.
2. Display is dim even on max brightness setting. In daylight, from a distance, it becomes hard to read. And to qualify, I am not talking about the size of the display here, nor any dimming setting - presently I have it set to stay on at all times with max brightness.
Will raise a ticket but once again, wonder if these are aspects of the unit i just need to live with.
#2 I expect I am stuck with, #1 is not great if indeed it is "normal" functionality.
Have tried flashing the firmware.
Cheers

Just as a first try:
Is the device exposed to bright sunlight? Have you tried how the remote works in darkness and how the display looks like in the dark?

I am controlling parts of the functions of my miniDSP with a "stationary" remote system. This works very reliable.

Bright sunlight or low charge on the battery remote are possible causes.

You probably weren't but note the remote should not be used with the plugin connected (and can behave erratically if you try).

Thanks for the suggestions folks - have done some trouble shooting today.
I am using this in combination with an Apple TV and remote and conclude this is where my problems lie. With the Apple TV off / on sleep, the remote works fine.
However power up the Apple TV and then after navigating a little with the Apple remote, the SHD remotes stop working, or do so intermittently, with an extended lag. This applies to all the buttons on the SHD remote.
Read that Apple TV 4K uses bluetooth 4.0 for the unit functionality, and then IR for other devices (it has some learning remote capabilty).
Using the Harmony 650 remote rather than the Apple TV remote triggers the same problems.
Stumped for now while still investigating.

Closing as per the other recent thread I opened on this.
Ref the remote control problems - with help of Dev team this is resolved. Interference from an old plasma the culprit
Simple fix of a strip of masking tape over the IR sensor on the SHD - right hand side of the display as you face the unit - and the SHD now responds perfectly to the remote.
Very happy with the unit beyond this - haven't even tuned for DIRAC yet, just enjoying the improvement, extra detail and refinement the SHD DAC brings.
And ref the display - fit for purpose while given bright light my hifi set up gets during the day, perceived dimness to be expected.
