I just ran Dirac 2.x to check if there was an update available. There was, but Dirac looked for my device and did not find it, since I have a USB connection to my computer only when I need to run miniDSP and calibrate with Dirac. Because no device was found, Dirac wouldn't download the update.

Is that typical? One has to connect the laptop to the SHD just to download an update?

Do I understand that the Dirac software makes the measurements and calculates filters, and the SHD is the convolution engine? So that the version of Dirac 2.x is somewhat independent of the SHD, as long as the filters are compatible with SHD firmware?

To download updates to Dirac v2 (and now v3) you need to go directly to the Dirac website and download the update there. You don't need to do anything with the SHD at all (it doesn't need to be connected to the computer).

Edit: oh and yes, the filters are generated on the computer running Dirac and these are then copied to the SHD which simply applies them.

Here's the main download page:

live.dirac.com/download/

Clicking on the Previous Versions link near the top give you access to any version you want.

A couple of members have tried v3 and it seems to run OK but there has been no official comment from miniDSP on compatibility that I've seen. If you want to play safe then stick to the v2 versions for now. I'm not gone to v3 myself yet.
