Hi all,

I’ve got a question I just can’t seem to find a decent answer on using Google. Hope one of you guys can help me out!

I’ve got a full SHD and would like to experiment with an external DAC. As this DAC has no volume control and will be connected to active speakers without volume control, I’m wondering if I can use the SHD volume control when the signal chain is: Roon (on a NUC)-> SHD -> external DAC -> active speakers.

Regards,
Martijn

I could do something similar but to passive speakers -- Roon (on a NUC)-> SHD -> external DAC (Chord Qutest)-> Power amp > passive speakers.
Cheers
David

Thanks for your reply, that’s reassuring!

On another note, can I ask about your findings when using the Qutest instead of the SHD internal DAC?

To my ears, they sound similar , with the Qutest slightly smoother. Qutest also allows you to tailor the sound a little with the 3 different filter settings.

I'm using the Metrum Octave dac. It has no volume control. I used to use the volume on my integrated amp. But I don't anymore. The amp stays at two o'clock and I use the SHD Studio to adjust volume. Works great!
