Have mastered the miniDSP side of things and happily got my two way system running with dirac. Lovely sound.

Now I'm trying to use the streaming portion of the SHD and I've almost got it but not without problems;

1. The WiFi is abysmal. Has anyone had any success with a higher gain version of another dongle? If so, what model? For now I have gone LAN to get around the problem but would ultimately love to get rid of another cable.
2. Using bubbleUpnp and Tidal - the volume rockers damn near blew up the speakers by shooting to 0db - now I understand this is probably a complex upnp issue, but is there perhaps a Max Volume/Initial Volume setting anywhere to prevent this happening again? For now I have disabled the phone volume rocker buttons on bubble upnp android and use the minidsp remote. But the ability to use the phone volume rocker would be awesome, then I would have full phone control. Should I write to BubbleUpnp about this?
3. Does anyone know if an external CD drive can be connected to the SHD studio to play CD's (obviously it wont rip them as no storage but I just want playback)? Im not having any success but I suspect it maybe the drive I'm using.

Thanks for any help..

2. SHD Plugin allows you to attenuate outputs by up to 72dB, that should allow you to set an attenuation that means 0dB is no longer dangerous.

Are you talking about a PC CD drive here which you are connecting via a USB cable? I don't know for certain but my guess is it's not your drive but rather that the SHD doesn't support this. I've not read anything to suggest it would.

An audio CD player with an appropriate digital output could be connected, or you could rip the CDs to a hard drive and connect this.

This should do the trick! Thank you. Now if only bubbleupnp could sync up volume control with volumio so the rocker doesn't skyrocket the volume to max ...

Yes a cheap external PC CD-drive via USB - the CD playback and rip function in the in-built volumio software seems to suggest this is possible but I've had no luck. I was hoping the CD could connect to the USB Host socket in the SHD and then the CD would show up in volumio to play.

I could use an Audio SPDIF CD player but my system is all compact half width and I've no room for a full width audio CD player, and there are no affordable SPDIF half width CD players.

I can't see anything about this in the SHD manual though. You could try contacting Support to see if it should be possible. It would be helpful if you could update this thread with any progress if you do.

Sonore did this for their microrendu streamer. With special firmware you can use the microrendu with a cd drive to play cd's. However in that case you need a second microrendu as streamer. So it's not a cheap option either.
