Hello,

Currently I am using a SMSL 500 D/A balanced into schitt freya out balanced to a JBL UREI 5235 electronic crossover. From the xover all balanced biamped into 2 amplifiers.

The sound is beautiful and dynamic.

When I go SHD balanced into the 5235 electronic crossver. It sounds very disappointing. Weak, loss of the "air" and dynamics.

On the shd I also tried biamping with their xover option. Sounds better but still not close to the 5235.

Any idea what could be the problem? My outputs in the SHD control panel are correct. Firmware I upgraded, etc.

I thought it could be an impedance problem as the shd is 200 ohm and the freya plus is 600 ohm?

Ran the shd to the freya then into the crossover. Better but still lacking.

Was really hoping this would maintain the sound and then further improve with Dirac...

Thank you

Is this comparison with or without a Dirac Live filter applied?

Without the filter, with the filter it is no good as well. Probably because it is compensating for the bad response with the mismatched electronic crossover and shd?

Are you using the digital input of the SHD, or analog from the SMSL?

USB input to SHD, analog balanced from SHD. The smsl is not used, neither the schitt preamp in this config.

How long are your cable runs? Some preamps are better at driving longer cable runs (5 meter or more), where matching capacitance and impedance values become an issue. Shouldn’t be an audible concern in the majority of cases, though...
