I read (on another forum) that the latest firmware update (1.18) allows Roon to control the volume of the SHD. I've installed 1.18 but when I set Roon to use Device Volume the Roon volume slider just shows fixed volume and I have to use the SHD volume control.

I'm connecting to Roon via the LAN interface.

Am I doing something wrong - or does volume control of SHD through Roon only work when connected by USB?

Maybe your Volumio needs to be updated?

Volumio version is 1.052 and 'Check Updates' says that it is latest version.

Hm. You don't happen to be using it via Airplay by any chance? If you're on a Mac, it would show up as a Shairport device (or something like that) by default. You'd need to enable the actual Roon in Volumio settings.

I'm using the RoonBridge plugin. Airplay devices were not enabled in Roon.

Tried reinstalling RoonBridge plugin and also restarting Roon Server. Also tried Airplay enabling SHD Airplay. Here's summary of combinations:

Using RoonBridge:
DSP Volume - Roon can vary volume but display on SHD doesn't change.
Fixed Volume - Roon can't vary volume, need to use SHD to change volume.
Device Volume - same as Fixed Volume (see screenshots).

Using Airplay:
DSP Volume - not available in Roon Device Setup.
Device Volume - Roon can vary volume but display on SHD doesn't change.
Fixed Volume - Roon can't vary volume, need to use SHD to change volume.

Solved it.

I was using the RoonBridge Plugin - disabled that and enabled 'Roon Ready' in 'My Music' -> Functionalities Control
