That advice was a bit like the old joke about asking for directions with the response that were you to go there you wouldn’t start here.

It is the sensible response to the latest problem you raised though. If you use the SHD as pre (source selector and volume control) it is intended as then this will allow you to apply time delays to the signals sent to your main speakers to compensate for the delays you've noted on your subs.

Yep, if I leave out the MSB entirely there is no longer a problem.  It’s all working 100% right now, it sounds pretty good, even without MSO and Dirac, haven’t even placed the subs yet.  I’d be very happy with the unit as a secondary system as it is right now.  Sadly the DAC I chose has too long a delay to be corrected by the SHD.

Just to confirm, the way I’m using the SHD at the moment is as follows.  I run Roon on a NUC, the SHD is the endpoint for Roon over wired Ethernet, SHD does the output routing and crossover (LPF 60Hz 24dB BW, HPF 60Hz 12dB BW) , SHD does a minor main speaker delay based on physical distancing (1.5mS) and SHD analogue 1 and 2 drive my Anthem STR balanced into my TAD ME1s, SHD analogue 3 and 4 balanced feed my PerListen subs in stereo.  It’s probably all nicely run in now and I should now try MSO and Dirac.  I haven’t progressed much past where I’m at because I’ve just enjoyed listening to music, which I’m doing now.

I’ll try the MSB with the new speakers I ordered to replace my WP8s when they arrive.  If I’m unhappy with them without subwoofers I’ll just sell the MSB and enquire about the latency on its replacement before committing to buying it, I’ll test it at home before buying I expect.  I expect the new speakers won’t need subs.

This probably reads a bit confusing but I have 2 rooms in the house with audio.  I sold off most of my old gear entirely and I’ve been doing a major rebuild.  The last of my old gear are the WP8s.

My last three posts had nothing to do with your MSB DAC and I don't believe @asx77's did either. You made a post complaining about delays from DSP in your subwoofers and bemoaning that this couldn't be handled as it could be with an AVR.

Responding specifically to your comment in bold, physical distances are not the right thing to use to set time delays to main speakers. Specifically because of 'hidden' delays like that from DSP in your sub the only way to correctly set delays is to base them on acoustic measurements.

I understand the additional delay that may be present in DSP of the sub so a measurement isn’t a perfect correction.  As I said, I havent yet done all the setup.  It’s been a bit noisy to do measurements here but I put in the distance component of the delay so I’d at least be closer than doing nothing.

Anyway, I think this topic has been done to death until I can actually do some measurements and try MDO and Dirac.

Thanks for all the help
