When I bought the SHD, I also got the WiFi adapter, Wi-DG so that I could conduct Dirac and REW measurements using WiFi to connect the laptop (MacBook 15") to the SHD. This would eliminate the need to plug a long wire to the back of the SHD, risk of tripping, tangles with microphone wires, subwoofer wires being moved around etc. I also thought it would be nice to stream music to the SHD via this adaptor. Upon closer inspection of the manual, music streaming isn't possible with the WI-DG.

Questions:

1. There are 2 USB jacks on the back of the SHD. When is each needed? Why different connectors? The manual is unclear on this. It says they are both available for streaming and control.

2. The Wi-DG also has two USB connectors. One is labeled "power". If I connect Wi-DG to the SHD, do I need 2 connections or one? One for power and one for data, or use just one connector for power and data? If connecting Wi-DG to SHD, which single SHD USB plug to use, A or B?

3. The SHD is now shipped with a tiny WiFi dongle, which supposedly does allow music streaming. Can this also be used for control of the SHD instead of the Wi-DG? If not, can they both be plugged in at the same time?

4. If the Wi-DG cannot stream music, can it still send test tones from Dirac or REW?

5. Apple TV 4k has an ethernet port, as does the SHD; - can digital music be transferred from A-TV to SHD that way? If not, how to get digital music from A-TV to SHD?

6. According to the manual, when you plug in the tiny WiFi dongle into the back of the SHD, it should show up as a wireless hotspot called miniDSP SHD. Nothing shows up. Any ideas? The manual says Volumio broadcasts this hotspot if it is not connected to a network. Would having the Wi-DG plugged in mess that up? Any other ideas for how to get the dongle hotspot to be recognized?

I'll stop there. Thanks in advance.

The WiFi dongle that is now provided with SHDs is just for streaming. Connection to the SHD for configuration changes and still requires either a USB cable (which I use) or the Wi-DG that you already have.

Regarding your Apple TV question I think you'd want to use a digital or analogue audio out to connect to the SHD.

Hi,
Sorry, wi-dg doesn't work for streaming, only for control. For dirac measurements you still need a usb cable connection.

So, if I understand correctly, Wi-DG cannot stream nor can it help with room correction, either Dirac or REW?

A few unanswered questions. If anybody could help out, I'd be most grateful.

Do I need to have 2 USB cables plugged into the Wi-DG? One for data and one for power? Or can I just one from the SHD?

Can I leave the little dongle and the Wi-DG plugged into the SHD at the same time and both function?

I still haven't been able to connect to the little dongle. Any ideas? Do I need to do a factory reset or could there be a less painful option? Could I connect to it via a wired connection, for example?

Thanks again

Sorry, I didn't understand from your first post that you already had a WiFi dongle. Yes, I would try temporarily connecting your SHD with an ethernet cable and then setting up the wireless connection. It was a while ago now but I think I remember having to do this myself. If you have a search on this forum you'll likely find more info. if you find you need it.

I don't have a WI-DG to be able to comment on this for certain but I'd expect you can have this plugged in at the same time as the WiFi dongle. I say this as I don't remove the WiFi dongle to be able to control my SHD or make measurements using the USB cable.

I guess I am surprised that the WI-DG doesn't work with Dirac Live. I use both Minidsp and NAD products with Dirac and REALLY like the ability to connect and calibrate with Dirac Live wirelessly with the NAD products. Many times we have the products in a somewhat distant location from the loudspeakers and using wifi is a LOT easier. Since NAD is somehow accomplishing this I wonder why it can't be done with a WI -DG. It certainly pushes me to use NAD (although more expensive) on installations we are planning as long USB runs are difficult at best. Thanks for any insight

Does the full frequency range version of Dirac Live (up to 20 kHz) run on the NAD wirelessly?

I am not Dingle, but yes: With my NAD M17 v2 the full frequency range version of Dirac runs wirelessly. Really nice. Makes things a lot easier sometimes...

Thanks. I was wondering if there might have been a timing accuracy issue that became relevant at higher frequencies if a wireless signal was used but it would seem not. Interesting.

Sorry I missed this, but as Nocko! indicates full Dirac works wirelessly with NAD products. I have an M10 and have also calibrated a 777, 758, C658 and M17 wirelessly.
