I’m using an old android tablet that we don’t really use anymore with my squeezebox. If you can do the same you can still get the Squeezebox/Slim devices app from here: wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Logitech_..._Controller_App.html

I’ve been using it for a while and it seems flawless. I do use the squeezebox server too should that make any difference to the seamless operation I’m not sure.

Hi,

this app is very outdated and uncomfortable to use. No comparison for Orangesqueeze or possibly ipeng. I already bought Orangesqueeze when the Logitech app was still working and never regretted it. I think Orangesqueeze is the best Squeezeboxcontroller for me.

Hi Chris,
When I first got my (first) squeezebox I was wondering what app to use but thought I would start with the standard (free) Squeezebox app. I find it works and it’s use ok but then I’ve never compared it to orangesqueeze.

What makes orangesqueeze better in your view?

Thanks

Hi,

exceptthat it runs onuptodte android, it's a lot nicer to use and mor effective. It stores artwork on the devices so with large collections you don't have to download it everytime iyou use it. The way the collection is managed is a lot better, you have preview with artwork where you can choose from. I simlply like it a lot more.

I was using sqeezcommander, but that's discontinued.

since half a year I use the Material skin plugin: enable it on the LMS server settings page, and then use: server-ip:9000/material/
for android there is also an app, not sure about iOS. but use the above URL in your browser will give the same functionality. I highly recommend it

I'm thinking of getting myself an SHD. Since more than 10 years i'm an LMS addict, currently using it on an rpi4 with picoreplayer. Best LMS experience I had so far, hands down. Only leaving it because I need Dirac and wanting a better DAC than my current external one.

Needless to say that I'm not looking forward on using Volumio on the SHD. I tried Volumio on my rpi, but it's simply not working with Tidal and the remote app is IMHO nowhere near the orangesqueeze experience.

I understand that installing squeezelite on the SHD is an option, but not straightforward and prone to versioning issues with the involved software. So I wondered if there is anything against keeping my current picoreplayer setup with HifiBerry Digi+ board and feed that to a digital input of the SHD? The picoreplayer will be standing next to SHD anyhow and I'll need it to run LMS. Any other issue I didn't think of? Would the sound quality suffer from such a setup, compared to SHD's internal Volumio board? So why take the hassle then of installing squeezelite to the SHD?

Hi,

I hate replying to posts without a name.

But anyway, there's nothing to argue against your plan except wasting energy and a raspi. I explained the installation procedure and posted the last version that worked for me. Installation takes about 5 minutes. It's up to you what you prefer. The result will be the same.

Ehm, not sure what you mean?

Since I would need a separate rpi running LMS, I see no waste in energy or hardware :)

I'm pretty sure you weren't baptized as q149. What's so secret about your first name. You are correct. No waste in energy or hardware, unless you don't need it in a different situation.

@q149 I just thought I'd mention that there are no problems with Tidal working via Volumio on the SHD.

Hi there. This is how I use my SHD. The on board nano pi is too slow and buggy for me to use volumio for anything other than spotify connect or internet radio. I have a rpi4 running moode audio and it can run through 2TB of flac files in around 5 minutes. No way the nano pi on the SHD can achieve this as it always seems to lock up.

So yeah. Plug your picoreplayer into the usb input on the shd. Will work like a charm.

Really curious then to know how you're using Tidal with Volumio? The Volumio Tidal plugin is broken and currently in the process of a complete rewrite by the Volumio devs. I've tried it myself last year with the paid MyVolumio subscription without success. Best experience with Volumio and Tidal for me was with BubbleUPnp. A bit slow but stable.

The SHD build of Volumio is different to what you can feely download, and provides native support for both Tidal and Qobuz. The user doesn't need to install additional plugins, or pay a monthly Volumio fee.

For info, in my kitchen I have a raspberry Pi running picoreplayer/LMS which I control via the Squeezer app, so I am familiar with this approach too. I have used Bubble upnp with my SHD too.

As Chrissy says, if you follow the instructions, it's very easy to get squeezelite working on the SHD.

If you don't want to do that, you can still use it with LMS by using the DLNA client in Volumio & the DLNA bridge in LMS. You won't get replaygain or gapless though.

Or plug your PI into the USB input.

Personally I've done all three of the above, so I can have multiple players in LMS and select between them. For example, I might leave one on a random playlist that I can pause/restart at will, and use another one to listen to Internet Radio.

Hello Everyone,
Just received my SHD today and having three Squeezeboxes around the house and LMS on my Synology NAS, I naturally wanted to use the Squeezebox app with the SHD.

I was all set to follow the instructions in this post but decided to see if the Volumio squeezelite plugin had been fixed. So I updated the SHD to the latest firmware, updated Volumio to the latest version, installed the Squeezelite plugin and started the Squeezebox app. Guess what... It works! Volume control - yes. Gapless playback - yes! Looks like things work out the box now with all the latest updates.
