Hi,
I just recived my SHD and Im trying to make it act like a Logitech Media Server (LMS), as well as a squeezebox player.
My music sits on a hard-drive which is connected to my router -> Network cable to the SHD
Volumio on the SHD has detected the drive and can stream music.
Now to LMS:
I have installed the LMS plugin as well as the Squeezelite Player plugin.
While configuring the LMS, under 'Media Folders' I cannot point it to my networked hard-drive. When I click on "Browse" it is not listed there, and manually typing the IP address of the router doesnt work either.
Any ideas?
Attached is the screenshot
Thanks

Out of interest, what is the appeal of using LMS over Volumio?

Hi,
LMS is probably the most advanced media server around. If you have a squeezebox infrastructure at your home, you'll probably want to use it. There are nice apps around, the synchronization for the players works well. I wouldn't use the shd as server, since it would have to be turned on 365/24. I use a raspi 4 as a server and the shd only as client. I don't like dlna based solutions like volumio since they give much less comfort compared to lms.

I use LMS on a Pi in my kitchen actually but just for streaming radio and Tidal, just controlling it using my phone. In this situation I'd prefer Volumio but I've yet to explore apps which would probably improve the interface.

Edit: I'll add that my SHD is on 24/7 actually since I'm not convinced it's designed to be switched off regularly.

Hi,
I have 5 instances running, shd in living room, 2 pi in sleeping room, on balcony and 2 radios in bathroom and kitchen. Server is a raspi 4 running raspian . Try orangesqueeze as a control app, I use it for years now, and it is still being developed further. I mainly use my local collection and internet radio, canceled my tidal hifi subscription about a year ago since I didn't use it enough

I've seen orange squeeze suggested before and will try it.

I have no locally stored files at all though, and doubt I ever will. In order of use my sources are Tidal, streamed radio and CDs.

I don't have a CD player for about 10 years. Got sick of looking for a certain CD. It's so much easier with lms.

With regards to LMS, I’ve read I can put it on my Synology NAS where I store my music. Can I then use LMS to stream to devices around the house? Primare NP30 streamer, marantz AV amp, Oppo BRP etc.?

Can the same song be sent to multiple devices at the same time?

And streaming everything via Tidal is much easier than ripping my ballpark 1000 CDs would be, and doesn't require additional hardware or backups :) .

@asx77

Sure, you can create synchronization groups and all will play the same music.
I use a raspi4 as server and do a backup to my nas i think this is a more reasonable approach.
@ ultrasonic
I refuse to pay twice for music, that's why I ripped my CD's. But, everybody has a different approach.
BTW: I ripped more than 1000 CD 's. And backup is automatically in a three stage process.

Trying to find out more about LMS. Are streams limited to MP3 or can it stream Flac to any device?

Hi

LMS can stream nearly every format related to music including mp3,flac DSD and so on. Take a look at forums.slimdevices.com, the home of LMS and the player squeezelite.

BTW. : the squeezelite binary of the plugin for volumio doesn't work because libwiringpj is missing. You have to download the binary and move it to /opt. Later I will post a detailed description of the process. There's also a thread regarding squeezelite on shd.

Ok,
Here is a step by step explanation how to get a working squeezelite on shd:
1. Download this: sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/file...v6hf.tar.gz/download

Don't use a newer version, since it will not work.

2. in the windows explorer, goto : \\ip_of_your_shd\Internal Storage and copy the downloaded file there
3. ssh into your shd and issue : cd /data/INTERNAL
4. untar the file with this command: tar -xzf squeezelite-1.9.6.1198-armv6hf.tar.gz
5. move the resulting squeezelite binary with this command: mv squeezelite /opt
6. reboot shd or restart squeezelite from webinterface.
7. edit the parameters for squeezelite on the shd webpage under http://ip_of_your_shd/plugin/music_service-squeezelite to the settings in the attached picture, and replace the -s raspi with -s your_lms_server in the extra parameters field

If you dont't have the credentials for ssh access, email to minidsp, they will provide the necessary credentials.
