No, don't waste energy. I have a switched netfilter that can be operated by IR and works on my whole HiFi system.

Yes. Well, I do the 'Power Off?' option in the latest firmware but it's unclear what this actually does. It's certainly not turned fully off like with the power switch on the back.

The reason I don't turn it fully off is that it doesn't have a proper shutdown function. I wouldn't risk turning a PC off just by cutting the power regularly so I'm not going to do it with my SHD. I do turn my power amp and subwoofer off when not in use, both of which would waste considerably more power if left on.

Hi,

Well, my subwoofers and power amps consume 1W or less due to power save function. Don't know about shd. I use hard power off for more than a year with daily use. No negative incidents so far.

Do you shut down volumio prior to cutting the power? I'd at the very least do that if you aren't already. Personally I'd suggest you stop doing what you have been. You've got away with it so far but you'll really regret it if you cause a problem.

I also saw that in the update list page. I still don't understand how to do this Power Off procedure. Please explain.

If you press and hold the control knob on the front of the SHD it will say 'Mute?' after a short while and if you keep it pressed down this will then change to say 'Power off?'. If you release the button while 'Power off?' is displayed then that's what it does. However, it's not at all clear to me what this actually does and @devteam have so far provided no clarification that I've seen. I would guess that it might cut the power to the DSP and output sections whilst seemingly leaving the network/Volumio bits running. I can still connect to Volumio from my phone after completing the Power off.

Thanks for that. I have this SHD for only a week. I haven't used the knob-push feature since I had a DDRC22, and so I forgot about that. On the version update page I thought they were talking about the remote control buttons.

Been busy spending most of my time trying to get all the bleeping computer issues with this SHD. solved . Very frustrating and I'm still not there.

Power off shuts off all functions for me while leaving the SHD "ON" on my network. My remote does not wake up the machine. I am able to connect to Spotify through my iPad but I get no sound until I physically "Power On" the SHD by pressing the volume knob once.

Edit: I should have added: I believe that its only function is to prevent phantom LAN startups; those music startups that occur when you choose a LAN source on say an iPad, and the SHD switches automatically to LAN. It can be quite a surprise when you don't expect it.

Hi Guys,

have a look at this thread forum.volumio.org/cold-shutdown-possible...h-volumio-t5795.html

A cold shutdown will not harm volumio.

The final post of the thread you linked to says there is still a corruption risk?

I've certainly read of people running Volumio on Raspberry Pis having issues with SD card corruption which is one reason I'm cautious regarding this issue. Reflashing the SD card for a Pi is easy. Fixing a broken SHD would need miniDSP support to resolve.

Hi,

I rather trust the developer gkkpch. "There might be a loss of configuration data". Since I usually don't change my configuation so often, i see no risk. Volumio runs in RAM like pi core player or tiny linux. SD cards are prone to be faulty. I had that quite may times in my home thats why you should use very good ones in SBC's . It's not a matter of cold shutdown. Linux is quite forgiving. I think everybody should do what he wishes to do.

I decided to move the power plug from switched power over to the UPS Surge-only outlet.
So I now leave mine powered on always, instead of switched cold turn-off.

TiVo and Mac Mini have hard drives, so they are on the UPS battery backup outlets. So is the internet router.

Two big Threshold T200 class-A-biased power amps are on delayed turn-on outlets.
