I'm curious if I am able to use the SHD for 2 channel stereo listening but yet also use it to just pass the front left and right channels through to my amp when I listening to TV or watching movies? For stereo listening I wouldn't use the processor at all, just the SHD, amp, and front L/R speakers. I would use the SHD to control volume in this case. But for home theater I would use the processor and its volume control. I would hook up all the output channel of the processor to the amp except the front left and right. These would be connected to the SHD and then the amp. Does the SHD support this?

What you've said there doesn't make sense to me. You've described a situation where there is processing and volume control by the SHD for movies but not for stereo use, which is the complete opposite of what a passthrough for movies would be doing?

Actually, if you read what I wrote *more closely* you would see that it makes total sense. Let me highlight the salient parts for you:

"But for home theater I would use the processor and its volume control. "

Most folks who have a single media room and don't want separate systems for multi-channel and stereo have a setup like this. I guess the Benchmark DACs which does support this configuration is a better choice for me.

Oops, my bad. Where you said 'processor' I thought you meant the SHD . I guess you meant an AV processor/AVR .

The situation you describe is exactly what has already been covered earlier in this thread then. You can set the SHD to apply no DSP but all analogue input signals will be converted to digital and then back to analogue. I'm sure this will work perfectly well for movie use.
