I just bought a MiniDSP SHD Studio version and trying to put my finger on the difference in the sound i'm hearing. I haven't full calibrated the sound level perfectly and do a session switching back and forth I'm running USB from my PC to my DAC and playing the same track from Volumio on MiniDSP going out COAX to my DAC. testing out a 44.1/16 bit and a 96/24 bit track. Has someone tested running a 96k/24 bit file through MiniDSP SHD Studio with volume at 0.0 and no EQ or Dirac. Does it come out bit perfect to the input?

Hi, it won't be bit perfect because there's an async sample rate convertor on the input.

I understand it wouldn't be for 44.1 but for 96K which the SHD runs internally at? It converts 96K to 96K.

Yes it will be the same.
Master clock is internal so it always resample the input to master clock. 48k to 48k or 96k to 96k. But it does not make any difference in sound quality anyway.

Any sampling rate input to the SHD Studio will emerge as 96khz.
Even a 96khz input is still processed by the ASRC and would not emerge "bit perfect" relative to the input....even with no DSP programmed.

The definition of "bit perfect" seems pretty squishy in the audiophile community. :)

I'm not sure why it's of concern here anyways, since the whole concept of the SHD units is to DSP process.

Dave.
