The SHD replaced a Classe Audio DR5 with a good phono input. Now, I am wondering what‘s the best way to connect my turntable to the SHD. Does it make sense to invest into a good phono preamp or does it make littel sense due to the AD/DA conversion? Thanks and best regards, David

I connect my turntable via my phono preamp. I wouldn't worry too much about the AD/DA conversion. Think about the modern music studio and recording systems. AD/DA conversions are taking place all of the time. The important thing is the room correction. Whatever detrimental effects, if any, are introduced by the AD/DA conversion are far superseded by the beneficial effects of Dirac. BTW, the DR5 was an excellent preamp in its day. You should be able to resell it to offset the cost of the phono preamp. Unfortunately, the good ones are $$$.

These are quite common online and will do the trick to feed your analog input of the SHD. devteam miniDSP, building a DSP community one board at a time. Ultrasonic Away Platinum Member Posts: 2782 Thank you received: 580	I would definitely use a phono pre-amp. Note that an important function of a phono pre-amp is to provide the RIAA equalisation, so it's not just a question of signal level, although this is a definite consideration too.
