Dear Members,

I have downloaded the new Dirac Live version 2.3 on my Mac laptop (Mojave version 10.14.4) and the SHD Studio. When I launch Dirac Live, it recognizes both the SHD Studio and the Umik1. However, when I start the calibration of the microphone by emitting a pink noise, the vertical bars showing the intensity of the signal in dB appear nowhere in Dirac Live. It appears like if the Umik1 is deaf. However, it works well when I use Rew on the same laptop. I have the same issue when I use another Umik 1. A friend of mine, who installed the same Dirac Live upgrade on PC, tried to help me, still without success. Thanks for your help if you know how to fix the issue!

Olivier.

Here are two screenshots. The first one indicates that Umik1 is well connected and the second one shows the screen during calibration. The bars are missing...

I get the same thing :( Tried both DL 2.3 and tried to go back to the earlier 2.2.3. That's a very strange bug. I've been using Windows for my calibrations but I thought it worked on this Mac before .....

I think the only thing for you to do is open a support ticket... support.minidsp.com/support/home

@Olivier

Would you please trial with Dirac 2.2.2 to see if the issue is still here?
live.dirac.com/all-released-versions/

Some older mac running Mojave are not behaving the same on Dirac. They are aware of it and trying to solve it.

dear dev team

same issue here. umik shows up as a recording device, but no there's no input level in volume calibration. i also tried to do a measurement, it failed.

i first tried dirac 2.3, then tried with 2.2.2. the problem persists.

i add (1) a screenshot of the umik being available as a recording device and (2) a screenshot which shows no inupt level in volume calibration, although in the system preferences of the mac, the level that the umik monitors is visible.

thank you in advance for your help

Dear All,

Please make sure that you're running the latest build from our user downloads section that should solve this issue of the UMIK-1 not being enabled for recording. You can also manually check from here: System Preferences" -> "Security & Privacy" -> "Privacy" tab, select Microphone from the left and toggle once more time (uncheck and check) the checkbox of SHD. It will enable access to the microphone.

I have the same problem with Umik-1 and Dirac. REW works fine with Umik-1, it connected also to Dirac, but there is no Level when I tried to do volume-calibration.
Shd isn‘t shown in the tab.
I have tried every version, all failed.
Best regards
Frank

did you see the post by tdarst in topic ‚error message: „samples lost during recording“‘?

it‘s crude but it worked for me. i recommend to read the rest of his (original) post, too..

i.e.:
„Yes. I made a similar post; another user suggested the following, and it worked:

1) Connect computer to the SHD, and UMIK to the computer.
2) Start the MiniDSP plug-in.
3) Click "Start Dirac Live software" button in the plug-in.
4) When Dirac opens, make sure the Mic is recognized and the calibration file is loaded.
5) Close Dirac live software, and immediately re-open it directly from the Apps folder (Launch Menu - not from the plug-in). The first time you do it, the OS should prompt you to grant Dirac access to the Mic. Do it (failure to get this prompt has been the problem all along!).
6) At this point, head on to the level calibration screen, make some noise and you should see a signal registering beside the Mic level graphic.

If so, you're in business, and can proceed with measurements.„

Hi!

Thanks for the tip (1. shut down Dirac 2. start Dirac from System/Applications - not from within SHD 3. Grant access for Dirac to use UMIK-1).

So, this is an obvious integration bug - SHD <-> Dirac, I wonder how this can have slipped through MiniDSP QA?!

System configuration
- OS: MacOS Catalina v10.15.2
- SHD v1.8.1
- Dirac v2.3.0 build 242-d3109be6

Look forward to new bug-fix release of SHD and/or Dirac.

Nils

Isn't that somewhat revisionist? My recollection is that MiniDSP always documented that Dirac 2 didn't support Catalina and all they could do was update their own parts to be ready for when it did. I don't even use Macs and I was aware.

I stand corrected, Dirac v2 does not support Mac OS Catalina (which was released Oct 7th 2019) - this is an issue/platform request I will raise with Dirac.

Running a currently non-supported OS-version likely explains some other issues I have had.

In my opinion, it is a severe limitation for any application to not support the most recent release of MacOS, delaying upgrading a computer solely for running one application is not feasible for most of us.

I believe SHD should check OS-version during run-time and either post a warning/explanation or abort SHD-application if OS-version is unsupported. The way it is now any new user (like me - this was my very first usage of SHD + Dirac) will interpret the solution as buggy and quality lower than it actually is. Reflects badly and undeserved onto SHD + Dirac.

Anyhow, I managed to do my measurements, export the filter to SHD and do A/B-testing in my system.

Dirac works very well - a clear improvement in soundstage (I have way more room reflection on my left speaker due to its placement).
Did also some initial adjustment of the bass response and could do A/B between filter 1 and filter 2 as well as Dirac ON/OFF - DSP is amazing when used with care!
Will integrate my sub as next action but I am already very satisfied with SQ improvement from this investment!
The UX of the overall solution will no doubt improve over time, I will add my 2c via tickets to MiniDSP and Dirac teams.

The good news is that the next release of Dirac 2 is supposed to support Catalina. Not sure why it has taken them so long but they aren't the only company to seem to be unable to cope with Apple's advance warnings of changes. Well I guess Dirac completely rewriting the software so that v2 was very buggy until recently may have kept them busy.

Yes - Dirac have invested in their code base to ensure it is long term sustainable, see below snip from their blog.

“We have done some work on the phase correction part of the algorithm to improve stereo reproduction, and we expect the new software to be more accurate in calculating gain and delay offsets.
New Dirac Live includes an enhanced phase correction algorithm for improved imaging. Additionally, where the previous version of Dirac Live individually measured the phase of each speaker, this new version also analyzes speakers in pairs. The measurement process is improved as well (and consequently the results) with the possibility of up to 17 measurements and two options for sofa setting (focused or wide imaging).
The new software is designed to be easily modified. The first such update is the bass management addon for Dirac Live, to be released in 2019.
We have also set out to make the new tool significantly easier to use with a more friendly feel, which will hopefully lower the bar of entry so that more users feel they can make use of Dirac Live room correction technology.
For that reason, we decided to replace it with a new software base about 12 months ago with two main objectives:
* It needs to be easy to add new functionalities
* It needs to be easy to maintain
Once we have released the first version we expect there will be quite a few things to fix—there always are with a first release of a new software. After that, our intention is to sit down and add improvements and, eventually, also new features. ”
