Hello, I am wondering if the SHD Studio can be used as a UPnP/DLNA renderer? It would be much more useful for me to be able to play music out of foobar on my PC. Has anyone had any luck doing this?

I play back music from a USB stick running DLNA on a Raspberry PI to my SHD just fine, Volumio sees it over the network interface.

Yes, I use it only with dlna app bubbleupnp. Not using the Volumio interface at all. Works great! Also an easy way to stream Tidal.

That's terrific news. DLNA is the way to go! These other programs try way too hard. Being able to just use foobar from any laptop or smartphone is perfection.

Hi,

Well, I think it's far away from perfection. Having1tb of music on my tablet or mobile is a little bit hard. Always using my laptop isn't very comfortable. I have a complete squeezebox environment in my flat (shd, two rasping feeding active speakers and 2 squeezebox radios), being served by a cubietruck. A raspberry pi3b or 4 with a USB drive will do too. There are very nice control programs for lms and I don't need a laptop. The server is up 365/24, takes little energy and running for a couple of years now and I can listen to music all around the flat, either with all players synced or different music on each player. That comes pretty close to perfection imho.

Oh, for sure, I agree with you. I play music both for myself at home and professionally, so I am constantly listening to files that don't go into the hard drive connected to my router. Having DLNA helps me out tremendously in this way. My personal files are on my server, which I listen to at night, and my work files are played during the day through my laptop. Perfection!

Its not DLNA, but I got TuneBlade free version working on my pc. It works flawlessly with the shairport (airplay) support built into the minidsp volumio. Now I can stream anything from my pc.

I wanted this so I could stream soundcloud.
