Hello everyone,

My SHD Studio (with Dirac switched off) has a channel imbalance. I tested by plugging in headphones to both the preamp and into the SHD directly, in both cases the right channel is clearly louder and voices are not at the center. I tested with different headphones and the result is the same. I was listening to Tidal and when I listen to the same track through Tidal on my MacBook the imbalance is gone so I guess it must be the SHD causing the issue. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi,
What was the input data source(s) when you had the imbalanced sound level difference? What else is in the chain of the data input source that has a volume control element. i.e. DAC, computer, preamp, AVR, etc.. One channel may not be equal (Right) in one of those devices.

Hi, source was LAN/Tidal. The SHD is connected to my DAC/Preamp. I can hear the imbalance on both the headphone out of the SHD and the pre. So I can’t think of anything else causing the imbalance than the SHD.

I would check that the SHD processor (not DLCT) has all configurations set to the default (i.e. 0 gain, PEQ 0, etc.). It's chapter 9 in the manual.

I only say this because, when I first got my SHD I messed around with SHD and forgot to set everything back to default and had the same experience that you describe. Drove me nuts until I figured it out.

Just a thought.

Check from the plugin the input levels for 1 & 2 for the preset you have the issue. If you had a Dirac measurement that resulted to different levels for channel 1 & 2 saved in this slot, the Dirac different input levels are saved in the slot and are active even if Dirac is off.

Many thanks, problem solved! I did a reset to factory default. There was indeed a -1.3dB on the left channel.
