Hi I just purchased SHD studio and have few questions.
I’m planning to connect it as a roon endpoint. (I understand this was just added.
Going to my CHORD Dave. (I use it as a preamp as well) Finally to my PASS Labs xa 160.8 Power amplifier,

1. Are there any advantages in spending time and money to upgrade power supply. If you have any recommendations please let me know. ???

2. My Chord Dave has , SPDIF , AES, and BNC Digital inputs. (It also has USB Audio input but from what I understand SHD Does not support USB. So I was planning to use SPDIF with BNC on the other end to connect with my Chord Dave . ???

3 And third question is that I have our REL Subwoofer. With SHP studio is there a way to apply room To the subwoofer or this is only possible with full-blown SHP? I’m OK buying Separate DAC If that’s what it takes to make SHP studio to control it

Thank you
P.s I just ordered SHP studio and can’t wait for it to be delivered to me.

What power supply do you have on dave and if not the stock one did you experienced a big change in sound with the new one?
Nobody can tell how bad/noisy your power is.

About 1. i also want to try another power supply but on my Qutest there was definitely an improvement with the ifi power supply
2. I use SPDIF with BNC
3. If there is no dedicated DAC you cant use the second output on SHD to control the sub. You loose the fine control over the crossover but still even integrated in the main system the SHD controls all the frequencies. But will be pretty interesting if anybody can make the experiment with a separate DAC. I suppose you don't need a top high quality one for the bass.

Using iFi power supply with my SHD studio. Got them at the same time, did not do AB testing. But iFi is affordable so I thought why not. SHD studio uses very little power, don’t need a big LPS.

1. For power i went with iFi like it was suggested. My DAC ( Chord Dave) has built in power supply) so i'm not planing to mess around with it.
my power is very clean in my opinion ... Im using new Audioquest Niagara 1200 that is connected directly to the power panel using Oyaide EE/F-S2.0 V ( bypassing power plug and receptical,,, just straight to power braker)

2. For Cable i went with Audeience SX SPDIF ( BNC on one end for Chord Dave and RCA for MiniDSP Sudio SHP )

3. for Sub woofer im still not clear .. If i get separate DAC for suborder can i apply Direc room correction and magic that SHP can do ???
Since im suing SPDIF for my Stereo DAC output should the second DAC also be SPDIF for suboofer ? ...
If this is possible and you have done it already please share your experience. My suborder is REL 212 and it has following inputs
1. Speaker level input / High Level ( this is what REL recommends ) so you basically connect to same output as you use for your speakers
Since i need to separate SUB Chanel to apply separate room correction , i dont think i can use this input option in this case.

2. Low Level / Stereo RCA Line level input. I think this is what ill have to use for Studio SHD assuming it can work with separate DAC just for SUB,,, i guess im still not clear on this.....

3. LFE ( this one will be used by my Home theater receiver. This will continue to be used by my Receiver.
BTW i just purchased NAD M17V2 with DIRAC cant wait to get it and start playing.

if you can help to sort out SUB related question i had left that would be awesome, thanks you all!!!

i already happens to have DAC that can be pretty good for SUB its simple and has no volute adjustment
FIIO D3, i think this would be perfect for SUB what do you think ? and i can connect it to wireless transmitter from REL

The SHD owner manual says the Dirac will apply correctly to all 4 outputs from the SHD Studio. (L&R mains, and L&R subs is a common use of the 4). But with the REL subs you have, I recommend you only use the 2 main outputs to go to both your subs and mains, as described in your REL manual.

I guess you spend our time making lots of money, so you don't have time for the manuals. I think you made the right choice on how to spend your time. :cheer:

I haven't tried that personally, but in the comments of his SHD Studio review at
, Hans Beekhuyzen wrote that he heard no improvement in sound quality when he replaced the stock power supply with his favorite hi end linear power supply.

Supposed to get unit delivered to me today.
Yesterday i was wondering if SHP Studio is fully digital why does it have headphone out.?
My understanding is that with Headphone out option device has to have DAC and some audio amplification , right ?

Once all set up ill be doing A B compare with
1. My Existing Setup
PRO-JECT Stream ULTRA 2 >> Transparent USB Cable >> CHORD DAVE USB input>> Audience SX RCA Cable >> PASS LABS XA 160.8 >> Focal Sopra 2 .
REL Subwoofer connected to speaker level output on PASS Amps. ( Hi Level )

2. MINIDSP SHD Studio >> Audience SX SPDIF RCA >> CHORD DAVE BNC Input>> Audience SX RCA Cable >> PASS LABS XA 160.8 >> Focal Sopra 2 .
REL Suborder will be connected via SPDIFF output from the MINIDSP >>>> FiiO D3 DAC >>>
REL Longbow Wireless low level input >>> REL Subs.

P.S If you have nothing good to say its better to not say anything.
Thanks.

It's possible that the headphone out is using an amp chip with I2S input, so there's no "DAC" per se.

Not that it changes anything but I wonder why headphone output was added to the studio , I’ll try it with my focal headphones see how it measured up against Chord Dave

1. Total waste of money. The SHD has no mains noise, and I'd assume that the Studio is the same. www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.p...p-and-streamer.4286/
On top of that, it's a mostly digital device, so only the headphone out could possibly have a noise issue.

2. That should work fine.

3. You can use a pass through on the REL to use the Chord Dave on everything, or you can buy another DAC. My speakers have integrated dacs and amps, JBL 708p, so I bought a Massdrop x Grace Design Balanced DAC. It sounds awesome, and it's the cheapest balanced DAC I could find.

Hello,

regardless of the question of whether it makes sense to try a linear power supply with the SHD Studio I would like to know if the DC plug is a 5,5mm/2,1mm or 5,5mm/2,5mm one? Does anybody know this?

Thanks
