I believe minidsp is not shipping usb Wi-Fi adapter with new units. For existing owners what Wi-Fi adapter are you including? Is there a chipset or item that should work with the SHD for us that would like to purchase separately?

What makes you say that new units are not shipped with the wifi adaptor? You may be right but for what it's worth a wifi adaptor is still listed in the 'What's in the box' section on the main product page:

You made me question if I did see it! But I recalled seeing it in one of the Minidsp newsletters. With the help of google, found it:

So yes, all new units are shipping with a wifi adapter now. I sent in a ticket about a week ago asking about the usb wifi adapter ... just want to know what it is so I can purchase something similiar to stream via wifi. I haven't heard back, so posted here. I am surprised they aren't showing this feature more. When the SHD/Studio were first released it was a big deal for many that a hard wired connection was required. But now it isn't. I am just hoping for something from Minidsp so those that purchased before they started including the usb wifi adapter can get this feature working too, even if they have to purchase a wifi adapter themselves.

As an early adopter without the included wi-fi dongle I have purchased two wi-fi adaptors (tp-link tl-wn725n and D-link N300) and both don't seem to work with the unit. I plug them in turn it on but it doesn't create the wi-fi network 'miniDSP SHD' even if i search for it on my Mac. I would be interested to hear what adaptors do work as it is frustrating to keep blindly purchasing adaptors hoping they work.

Pulled it out, installed it in the SHD and it works. Streaming now wirelessly via roon. So far so good. How I got it to work..
-First, be on the latest volumio. To check log into minidsp-shd.local/ > system, check for updates
-Be hardwired and on your network, then install the usb wifi adapter
-on your local netork go to minidsp-shd.local/
-go to network>enable wireless, give in 30 seconds to a minute, then refresh browser and you will see your wireless networks to connect to. Click on your wireless network, and enter your password
-Unplug your wired connect and enjoy
I have only been using it for a few minutes but so far so good. There of course could be others that work as well but this may be a good alternative for those where it is really a pain to get a wired connection to.

So I have to hardwire first my shd to computer and then I can activate/enable wireless system?

I think you do need to have it hard wired on your network. This is so you can access the configuration and enable it when you install the usb adapter. Then once you enable wireless, and enter your wifi password for your router, then you can unplug your hardwire connection to the shd. At least that is what I did and it worked. There may be another way to enable it, but that was how I did it.

I can confirm that if you hardwire the SHD to your network wireless router it pops up for me under minidsp-shd.local then setting the wi-fi as per the user manual I turned the unit off, unplugged the network cable and moved it into my rack. Upon booting up again it works perfectly with the TP wi-fi dongle on the wi-fi. Connecting via airplay no problem!

Interesting, my experience was different. I unpacked my new SHD Studio, inserted the USB adapter with no RJ45 LAN connection, and the Minidsp SHD hotspot appeared quickly on my network monitor.
