TOPIC:

I have my SHD streaming spotify using a wifi dongle plugged into the USB at the back. It connects fast and streams well but only for 10 minutes to 45mins randomly then disconnects. I have to cycle the power to reconnect all the time. Anyone have this issue or have a clue what to check ?

Sorry I don't have experience of that issue but I'm curious does this wifi dongle connected in SHD work with android (minidsp app) or just PC ?

I have Volumio and Spotify on my android phone connected to the same network as the SHD.

Can someone with the included Wi-Fi dongle snap a picture? Or anyone with a working usb Wi-Fi adapter for that matter.

It's interesting that you've got this to work at all, since my understanding was that it was only possible to stream with the SHD via the ethernet input. That the USB input is not intended for streaming may ultimately be the route of your issues but I'd be interested in what the developers have to say.

In SHD manual they say: "Revision 1.9 -> Added Wifi connectivity 26 August 2019" so I think this is a quite new upgrade ?

Is that wifi connectivity just to control the SHD, or also for streaming though? Ive just checked the latest manual and I'll be honest I can't tell.

You're right I'm out of date though, as I hadn't realised that the SHD was now sold with an included USB wifi adapter, so maybe functionality has moved on too. It would be great if it had as for me the inability to stream using a wifi connection was a definite weakness of the SHD.

There would be little point in MiniDSP including a WiFi dongle if the SHD (Volumio actually) couldn't use it to stream. What could it possibly be for if not to stream music and to be able to control said streaming? A bit of logical thinking might be in order here.

The purpose would be to control the miniDSP, setting up and selecting filters, adjusting volume etc. When I first looked into the SHD series a while ago it was clear that the USB port was not intended to be used for streaming.

I guess no one read my thread starter nor the manuals on this.

the wifi dongle connects to the USB(Type A) host port. And the computer connects to the audio&control USB(Type B ). And yes with the dongle connected to it one can stream music via Volumio or whatever.

SHD, Wifi, WIDG, Streaming vs Control... Isn't it all a bit confusing?
Ok, let us try our best to clarify

a) SHD shipped for the first few months without the ability to have wifi streaming. That's correct.
b) In Aug2019, we started to add a Wifi USB adaptor to all our shipments as we added the feature within the Volumio firmware for support for Wifi streaming. See more here: www.minidsp.com/aboutus/newsletter/listi...p-q3-2019-newsletter

Note that this little USB wifi adaptor (looking like this: www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-...ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-3) is actually something you can easily source from amazon if you'd like to get one for your SHD.

Please source adaptor from our team. Don't purchase 3rd party adaptors with untested driver support. 

c) Note that it's not similar to the WIDG since on the widg we needed to have custom firmware to support self discovery/control of our devices. That's why it's not the same. aka WIDG dongle is only for control.

Down to the OP of this thread, which Wifi adaptor are you using for your setup? Maybe it's an issue specific to the USB wifi adaptor you're using?

Not sure if I am supposed to make a new thread, but I was using my brand new SHD for about an hour, streaming music from Qobuz through wi-fi (it was working great), until i got the spinning ball circle. tried reloading the page and keep getting the ERR_CONNECTION_RESET or ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error. I am hearing this chime come through my speakers every 10 seconds or so, as if to say "im still on, but not connected." Anyone know what the heck is going on?

edit: also, I can see the SHD is connected to my network, even after a power cycle. still unable to connect through minidsp_shd.local

ANOTHER EDIT: I have not been able to connect to the device through usb. it gives me an error message saying windows does not recognise the device. I followed the directions to get the drivrs installed, and it kept saying to disconnect and reconnect the device

I'm using a similar adaptor (EW-7811Un By Edimax), I've tried other adaptors and they too disconnect randomly.
Alternatively, till then I'm using a RPi-Zero W with a JUSTBOOM DIGI ZERO pHAT and TOSLINK.

Pity you chose to hijack a thread about WiFi to report your concern over upnp - you might find creating your own more specific thread works better in getting response.

I have no experience at all with Mac/Airplay/Audirvana but I notice you said nothing about enabling upnp within Volumio. So just a heads-up to look for and enable that setting if you haven't already.
