I have been hoping to get some news on full Roon certification but it hasn’t happened yet. I am hoping Minidsp can provide some sort of an update. The current status of Roon works, but it really needs to have volume control.

Not sure whether I have the wrong end of things here.
I have an SHD - Studio running as a Roon end-point and volume control in the Studio works. Roon via Ethernet port /RAAT to SHD and input set as LAN. Volume knob and remote control volume just like any other input.

Have you ever done anything custom to it?

Nothing custom. New a week ago and worked 'out the box'. It arrived with latest firmware - or at least didn't need any updates when I checked.

I have 2 units on 1.048 and both work with roon, but neither work to control the master volume. Maybe Minidsp can chime in. If it works I would like to use it.
Are you sure it is the roon endpoint in roon, or is it airplay you are using in the shd that roon is seeing and using?

Relatively new to this.

On SHD - Studio the only thing I set up was the Roon Bridge Plug In, which in turn enables the Roon Ready Playback Option. And turn on Roon under Functionalities in Sources. Input set to LAN.

Then it appeared under Roon Ready in Roon (see pic) and away it went. Don't think I have touched airplay at all, or changed anything in Volumio. Volume knob on SHD works as I would expect it to.

Did you install the Linux roon bridge plugin from roon from here:

I muddled through the install on one of my SHD’s about 2-3 months ago (before it was added to the built in settings). At that time it did enable roon, but the master volume did not work. Then minidsp added Roon to the minidsp. On this unit, I now have roon listed twice on this unit in the roon settings. At that point my the changing volume in roon did change the master volume on the shd.. The build in roon endpoint on the unit still does not change the master volume. If you installed roon bridge on your shd, I am wondering if the same thing happened. That would be my guess, because on my unit that I did not install the roon bridge plugin on, changing volume with roon does not change the master volume.
Hopefully that makes some sense.

The Roon Bridge Plug In was already in the Plug In list in the SHD when I got it, so just an internal enable.

I don't use Roon to control volume - leave it fixed and rely on the downstream device to do that (in this case SHD).. For some reason I am unclear of volume control works on my SHD when used as Roon End Point! Beginners luck perhaps?

Perhaps reset to defaults and try again. Or miniDSP Mods may have a view?

I was puzzled by your screenshot as it didin’t look like mine. I browsed around via the volumio menu and found there is a second roon setting. There are two places you can configure roon.
-The location I knew about: Settings>My Music>Roon Ready (Off/On)
-The location I did not know about which is a new (I think) plugin.: Settings>Plugins>Roon Bridge (install)

Has anyone else noticed this new plugin? DId it appear with the 1.048 volumio update?

Pretty sure it was a two step process for me. Install the Plug In and then enable under My Music.

Do you have any way of checking that the Plug In that now come native (Version 1.0 by Christopher Rieke) is the same as teh Linux one you installed from external source?

Here are the steps I took - pretty sure this is "the way"

1. update SHD,
2. update within Volumio app (dont install addons, just update Volumio)
3. Enable ROON under the Volumio main settings (not an addon)
4. Go to Roon Client and enable the SHD over ethernet
5. Turn SHD to LAN

When do you enable roon under the Plugin menu?

Roon has to be touched in two areas.

Step 3 on the SHD hardware in the VOLUMIO interface, it must be enabled (not an install in the plugin menu, ill upload a screenshot tonight)
After this in the ROON client, you can see the SHD and must enable it in ROON as any other device you are adding to ROON.

the SHD must be on the LAN input for all of this to work as the final step

The Volume control requires firmware on the SHD (not on the Volumio) to release the latest feature that were developped. Since at this stage engineers are still developing features (other than volume control), not sure if they can do a "partial" release at this time. They will see but please once again be warned that this feature is still under dev."

I am still confused as to what the roon plugin does under under the volumio plugins section. My guess is it is the roon bridge linux install but made easier to install than the one from Roon which I did on my other SHD via Putty. With the roon bridge install that I did, it did provide volume control but not via the master volume, but via dsp volume in a Roon setting. On my second SHD where I only installed the roon plugin, I never got any volume control to work (dsp or master volume). Hopefully in the not to distant future we will get a release that provides master volume control for roon and volumio.

Hi I am using the SHD studio only as a roon endpoint.

Is there a way to bypass the volume control? I am not using it as an pre-amp only has it because of Dirac Live.

Equipment: roon ROCK server on a NUC. Orchid DAC and a Primaluna HP integrated amp.

Also any tips for getting the best from the SHD

Not relevant for this thread, but where can I find the Dirac license key?
